Should we challenge ACG's ability?

Seeing the more than hilarious ACG $50 reward thread, I got to thinking...

Should we challenge them and see if we can get the ANA to do something? I know I have a counterfeit coin (a good copy, I got it as a copy, wasn't ripped off). I'm sure other people here have counterfeits, obvious ATs, cleaned, whizzed, you name it, someone here probably has it.

Now... what can we do?

If there are enough people, would we be interested in using one of their cheapo services (15 coins at $5.95 a pop) to have them "certify" our junk? Then, we ship the slabs to the ANA and see if they would do anything.

This is just one idea. For $10 after s/h both ways, if there were enough other people, I'd be in. What do you think?

  • Im not a lawyer, but im pretty sure there isnt much we can do UNLESS we can prove he KNOWLINGY slabs these kinds of coins knowing their true condition. Otherwise he can argue all day that this was "his" opinion.

  • Why would the ANA do anything. They don't seem to mind taking contributions from them.
  • Sean- Not to the best of my recollection! I did not have sexual relations with that woman......Miss Lewinsky.

If we had enough damaged/fake coins in their holders, couldn't, if nothing else, their membership be revoked as they are knowingly authenticating these coins as problem-free, which I believe is against the code of ethics (remember, they won't refund for their service, which is like no returns on a misrepresented product)

Challenge their coin grading ability? Not so fast. Let's start a little slower. Someone call them up and ask them what day it is. Mathmatically, they at least have a 1 in 7 chance of getting that right. If they get that one, next we'll ask the month; and so on. Soon we'll feel more comfortable asking about a tough one - a coin.

P.S. So far my search of military records has not uncovered any Major Complaints either. He must be out there somewhere.

  • I don't presume that the ANA is blind to the fact of ACG's operations. They(ANA) are there at every major show and hear and witness firsthand all of the problems associated with ACG. Instead of rebuking them as a grading service or refusing to have any relationship with them, they accepted them with open arms, along with the $3000 check.

  • Well this seller has a super rare Morgan according to this item. Is the "find of the century with no reserver?"

What would your slabbed coins be worth if the grading services went out of business? What would your coins be worth if the Internet was taken offline for good?
  • He should have said that if the coin goes for less than $10,000, the shipping will be $18,000 if he truly believes that it is MS-66 PL.image
  • A few more hours to go and close to $800 on this item. Will it make it to $40,000? Probably not.
