who's on the block after a week of basketball?

If you listen to Lacy Banks of the Chicago Sun Times it would be the Knicks' Latrell Sprewell, the Celtics' Vin Baker, the Bulls' Jamal Crawford, the Pacers' Austin Croshere, the Heat's Brian Grant and LaPhonso Ellis, the Cavaliers' Tyrone Hill, the Clippers' Lamar Odom, the Suns' Anfernee Hardaway and the Warriors' Danny Fortson. But if you ask the teams?:
LATRELL: It’s no secret that the Knicks and Spree are not a happy family, but the problem is no one in the NBA wants Latrell’s contract for anything of value. The Blazers are said to be interested in Spree, but they want to send off small time or washed up players for Spree, in fact the bulk of the offers exchanged between the two are said not to involve Dale Davis and Ruben Patterson (the players the Knicks want), but Scottie Pippen and Chris Dudley - it’s a possible deal for the Knicks, but it does nothing to help them, only to clear out capspace in 2003, but even dropping Pippen’s $19 million from the cap does nothing for the Knicks as they are sitting on $90 million in cap hits, meaning they’d give Spree away…
BIG VIN: With Vinny now a reserve, the Celtics were rumored to have entertained at least one deal with Vin’s name in it, but nothing has materialized from it. A Celtic’s source said that they were the only team really willing to gamble on Vin, and while he’s not a star anymore, he’s serviceable…
CRAWFORD: Jamal is likely going to be dealt as soon as the Bulls get confident in Jay Williams, so its just a matter of where? Rumor has it the Celtics have had talks, but nothing as materialized from it. …
CROSHERE: The Pacers have been trying to move Austin Croshere for the past two seasons, he thought he was going to be dealt this year and sold his Indiana home, rumor has it he’s living in a luxury apartment, pending a trade. The problem is he makes entirely too much money and he’s always hurt. Once Austin returns to the lineup healthy expect for him to be on the first thing smoking at the trade deadline.
GRENT & ELLIS: Don't read this the wrong way, Pat Riley loves Brian Grant, but if someone will take him for an ending contract, he’s gone. At least two teams say they have had “substantive” talks with the Heat about acquiring Grant, but nothing is pending, but if the Heat begin to slide, the Heat will likely look to the summer. Pat Riley swears he’s not going to be that way, but it only seems like the smart basketball thing to do, especially if he slides out of the hunt early.
TY HILL: Tyrone Hill is a veteran among children, and he has asked the Cavs to explore moving him to a playoff team. He’s being a solid pro and has really taken to working with the young guys, but at the end of the day he wants out and the Cavs may help him at the deadline. Injuries are going to determine value, and considering Hill’s name is somewhat tarnished after failing the 76ers in the playoffs - a strong showing in Cleveland will help him find his playoff home…
ODOM: Injuries, run ins with drugs and contract situations make moving Lamar Odom a "when, not if" situation. The Clippers continue to say keeping Lamar is a priority, yeah, they said that about Michael Olowokandi too… League sources say the Clips could get reasonable value for Odom, despite the string of injuries; and that by the trade deadline they expect him to be dealt.
PENNY: To believe the Suns will be able to move Hardaway is unrealistic, no one wants his deal, his knees or his attitude. Penny came out this summer and said he’d play whatever role the Suns asked him to play, he doesn’t have much of a choice. So far this season he’s looked pretty good, but League sources believe the Suns will again open talks to move Penny before the deadline, the question remains who will take him?…
FORTSON: Danny Fortson is taking his sweet time getting back to Golden Sate after the funeral of his father (Condolences to Danny on your loss), media is reading a lot in this, but Warriors sources say the loss has hit Danny hard and they are not pressing the issue. Beyond the headlines today, Danny was not happy with Golden State prior to the death and your sure to bet he’s going to come back and compete hard for his starting job. The problem is no one in Golden State sees Danny as a dependable starter, and that’s where the trade rumors come into play. If Danny comes back strong, but does not start… expect him to demand a trade.
