Morgan Dollar Help

So now that i am back into coin collecting i pulled out 2 bags of several hundred ungraded Morg's for the Grandson and i to go through.
My question is Who has the best book available to help me grade, sort and collect in general morg's?

Thanks Every one

  • The Morgan and Peace Dollar Textbook by Wayne Miller is excellent. It gives you a date by date analysis of both series in addition to grading information, varieties, and excellent pictures.

My preference is the Comprehensive Catalog and Encyclopedia of Morgan and Peace Dollars, 4th Edition, by Leroy Van Allen & A. George Mallis

What Gilbert says. That is THE BOOK. The VAM book they call it.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

This project sounds like it will consume too much of your valuable time, go ahead and send the bags of Morgans to me image

I am thinking the same, however, I have more fre time, so send them to me. And if you happen to come across a spare 02-s or 01-s, I have a home for them.

In fact, if you would like my list of ten needed Morgans, I am a buyer for these.

So last night i pulled out 35 Morgan Dollars and was showing the Grandson how to handle them and i get a classic question,
" Hey Poppy, How come they don't make money like this anymore?" I t was wonderful. At 7 years old the kid is Hooked. And he seems to have the silver gleam in his eye's.
Now i remember how wonderful it was to do this the very same thing with my Late Grandfather.

  • Congratulations on your stash to explore with your grandson. What a treasure--in so many ways!

Thank you Coin Daughter. The bags have been in my family for many years handed down eventually to me and now i see who is the next in line to get them.

  • Sifting through coins with my father when I was a youngster is one of my fondest memories of my childhood. I was seven or eight at the time and it was a routine we went through several times a week. This was 1959-60 or so and we would search bags and bags of coins to build Whitman albums - all of which I still have today.

We then started on second sets - which Pop designated as "my" albums. Of course all the one of a kinds went in Dad's books first. My mother just used to shake her head watching us.

Years from now, your Grandson will have similar fond memories.
