this is a great history of coins, a great deal of information. I have one question though.
How did each change in the coining process make improvements in the life and times for humanities? With the ability to produce coins faster or more precisely or of a larger size, was there an improvement to commerce, increased circulation or better trade between different groups of people?
I wonder if that type if information might prove valuable in a paper of this nature.

Otherwise, I really like it. Nice job.
Positives - The minting of coins and how they changed from time period to time period. Pointing out the use of different materials in the prodution of these coins. Creation and maintenence of dies or stamps to be used multiple times.
Negatives - Cultural relevance to " me/them ". The Greeks put the Gods on thier coins. Why? Why did they do that instead of putting on say a tree? Maples on Canadian coinage, Why? I agree with lanlord, What does coins, in any time period, important or even neccessary?
I`m not trying to nick-pick or get up your nose on the Negatives but, I took humanities at Ohio University and you are expected to answer these kind of questions. I wouldn`t think about pointing these out if I didn`t think you where a smart kid. I hope you do go to college and good luck with the ANA because it is a good paper!
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
In the classical humanities, technology was one aspect. Also, for the modern humanities, it is showing how people developed the achievements.

I don't quite understand what this is supposed to mean- the gods portrayed what they felt was important in their lives.
Didn't I read somewhere that the mint is now also using a new reducing "machine" that is not a Janvier?
Probably just a typo but corn was a new world discovery.
The ancients struck coins in non precious metals also, and coins made in precious metals are still struck today.
The '76 quarter was intended as a circulating commemorative and some believed the same applied to the '32.

I would give your report an A in a history class, but a D in Humanities.
The purpose of a college education is to gain a broad spectrum of knowledge. Gathering, organizing and presenting a list of dates and events works great for history, but doesn't work in a class in humanities.
You didn't tell me why different cultures chose the symbols and shapes they used for their coinage.
You didn't explain how advancements civiliation made were reflected in it's coinage.
If you wanted to tie coins into your humanities class, you could have focused on some better topics.
Since your in Israel, you could have done a report about NIS and Sheckels. Or "In God We Trust" on US coins.
So save your report for your history class. If you cross it over you'll get a much better grade there.

I'm not in college and I'm not in a humanities course- this is high school English... as per the presented requirements, I more than met them- I do not know of any way that I could have gotten specific enough books in such a short amount to time, if they even exist... for my grade, I probably have the most in depth paper on any topic presented- to go even further in depth would have been impossible in the time I had to write this paper, especially amidst other work.

There were four references to humanities in this thread (which isn't taught in high school) so I jumped to some conclusions.
You did your research, organized your information and presented it very well.

There's a very basic humanities course- not open for sophomores and not of my interest (studying things like hieroglyphics). Unless it was about the proper way to staple the page, my teacher was of no help during the writing of this if I had real questions.

First POTD 9/19/05!!
I read the paper and enjoyed it a great deal. It is very informative; you obviously put a great deal of research and effort into it. There were many aspects of the history of coining that I did not know about and the paper was quite enlightening on world coinage as well.
