My ebay amusement for today.....UPDATED

Auction #1391048536, 1932 D Washington Quarter, ACG MS 65:

Currently bid at $3,000 no reserve.
Of course he mentions, PCGS price of $22,000.
$15 shipping - BUT IF THE WINNING BID TOPS $15,000, AND I EXPECT IT MIGHT, I'LL PICK
UP THE SHIPPING !!!!!

For $15,000 I think I might give the buyer a small token of appreciation, like a new car, not just free shipping.

It is convenient that the obverse is out of focus near the mintmark and the glare from the light makes it hard to see closely - my greatest fear in something like that would not being stuck with an overpriced MS63 but a coin with added mintmark or whizzed so that I would end up eating it all !image

Would an MS65 by any other name smell as sweet?

It may with the exception of the spots, hairlines and chatter.

Looks like a good deal: certified funds only and no return policy listed.

I'm sorry, I can't hear you, all these alarms are going off in my head. image

  • The photos of this coin look deceptive. Even with the poor lighting and the blur you can still see spots and scratches. Run away! I love washingtons but I wouldn't pay hard earned money for that.

Is this the same coin he just paid $1,375 for only 3 weeks ago?

    Recent purchase

If so, that's a sweet profit for such a short time.

If the two spots under the motto are an indication, yes it's the same coin.

What is one of these worth in true MS65?

Maybe Mr. Buyer knows a bargain when he sees one. He'll send it to Accucr@p for grade review, request a MS 66 and then advertise it as a $75,000 coin per the price guide.

Good find Dan, or Pete, or whatever.

This stuff drives me crazy, but it's not my money. I just listed a 1998 SMS MS 69 Kennedy on ebay and added my little "soapbox" to the description. :^)

You guys really know how to make a terrific deal sound even better. image
There once was a place called
    Camelotimage
  • The heading refers to a "Rare Key ACG MS65."

What is rare is the fact that this cleaned AU55 isn't in an ACG MS66 slab.
Buy the coin...but be sure to pay for it.

    PhillyJoe,

I'll be watching your 98-S JFK with great interest, as I recently got mine back from PCGS as MS-69 also. Good luck with the sale!

Don't forget that this one has the Accugrade "FEB" (TM) designation. ("Full Eagle's Beak"). That alone makes it worth the extra money, right?

Three rules of thumb for sellers of Accugrade material:

    1. Quote the PCGS priceguide.

    2. TYPE EVERYTHING IN CAPITAL LETTERS.

    3. Only use the word "certified" in the title, not the name or acronym of any specific service. (this particular seller didn't follow this rule, to my surprise).

Couldn't resist, sent the high bidder the link to the sellers purchase of the coin. With a not that said

    << <i>Nice Profit, enjoy the coin >>

. Have not gotten any crap from E-Bay in a while. But sometimes you just have to say WTF!!!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

How come when I buy an ACG coin for a quick profit, I always wind up getting offered only $8 for it?

I emailed the winner today. I wished him well with his purchase. From his feedback, I could tell he was new to coin collecting and should learn all he can. I informed him he was a dummazz for paying that kind of money to a dummazz seller that just bought it from another dummazz seller two weeks prior for less than half the price. Then I said only a dummazz would think that an ACG ms65 is worth the $22,000 touted in the dummazz auction. The dummazz responded to my email that he was going to submit it to PCGS and take his chances. I told him if it crosses I'm the biggest dummazz in the world.

Just looked at the Trends pricing in CoinWorld. A 1932-D quarter trends for:
    $2,000 in MS-63
    $4,500 in MS-64 and
    $17,500 in MS-65

So, unless it crosses at 64 or higher, it doesn't look good for the buyer. Anybody care to venture a guess as to what it would cross to PCGS as? image
