this really highlights how stupid book referencing can be. i'd like to know who measured all those snakes to get the averages!!!!! of course all the estimates are based on studies and specimens, but really, who knows where a monster may be. i mean, both of these snakes don't hang out waiting to found and most of the specimens used to determine the referenced lenghts were most likely captured young and hence small.

makes me think of the childhood "Frank Buck Brings 'Em Back Alive" books i used to read. the thing about snakes is that they just keep growing and growing and growing. i just know there's one of each out there wondering what billy boa has been up to lately, if he's still got the biggest coil in the swamp!!! that 35 footer just ain't been found yet. oh, wait. i forgot. they stop at 32 feet, no chance of a 32 ft. and 6 in. bugger out there let alone a 35 footer. DOH!!!!!!! image

    Pushkin,

As a past officer of the Chicago Herpetological Society and also as a past breeder specializing in boas/pythons, most of your initial information was correct with only a few inaccuracies.

Also, just to let people know, there have been several documented instances in Africa and elsewhere of a python consuming a human whole, not a pretty sight!

  • First of all, They dont squeeze their prey, they only pull themselves up to the body as you exhale. Second, How large is a calf, they use them as bait? They place a calf inside a cage that has bars just large enough for the average Anaconda to get through, when the snake eats the calf it cant get back out!

  • I will try an find a picture Ive seen of one that has swallowed a human.

Never saw a python when I lived in Thailand but I did have a cobra in my kitchen one time.

I usually keep gross stuff like that around but I lost a lot of pict the other day. Look at rotten.com and you can find a guy that got ate by a snake.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

    Dog,

That is one of the sickest sites on the net. Hopefully, no kids are reading this right now.
