A few questions from a new member

Hi, new person here, one of the sort referred to in a post below, the sort that inherits a collection, and runs off to sell it ASAP. I collect vintage marbles, and somone died and left me all her stuff, including a wolf and a baboon, (DFG licensed.) She did not collect coins, but her father dabbled in it. I found a sheet of twenty dimes, another sheet with two dimes and four half dollars. I would like to play "show and tell" with the coins before I sell them, like we do with the marbles, except I don't know the good ones to show and tell. To me they all look the same. My question is... Which of the following ones would the members of the board like to see?
1900-p; 1916-p; 1916-s; 1917-p; 1917-d; 1917-s; 1918-p; 1918-d; 1918-s; 1919; 1919-d; 1919-s; 1920; 1920-d; 1920-s; 1923; 1923-s; 1924; 1924-s;
1942-s; 1944;... and, do I take them out of the stapled cardboard thingy with plastic windows before I photograph them? I have a nephew I would like to give some of them to also, and would not like to give him junk, nor would I like to give him something of significant value. He is in first grade... He heard about the coins and would like to have some. I would love to give him some, but not from the top shelf, so to speak. Truth is, I need the money to take care of a baboon and the wolf... anyone who can help me feed the baboon, I would appreciate it. Photos coming soon, let me know what to shoot. Nice board by the way, not as snipey as the marble boards.

  • I wouldn't take them out of the holder unless they were difficult to see thru.

    Forget about coins for a minute. You inherited a Baboon? Why would anyone want a Baboon? My natural instinct is that they should be left in the wild or in zoos. How did this person get this animal and why did they have it? Oh yea--what do you plan to do with it?

    I'm guessing the baboon is stuffed. But if not, definitely a conversation-worthy animal! Welcome to the boards and I agree that its best to pick the best pieces and photograph them. Leave them in their containers till you know how you want to dispose of them.

    Ahh, I didn't notice that. Personally, I'd donate them to the zoo and make sure they named something after me... "The most wonderful Neil wing of the Knoxville Zoo..."

    Forget about the coins, we see pictures of them everyday.

    But please post a picture of the Baboon and wolf!!!!!! It is not everyday we can see that on these boards. image

    Just my first thought, but have you thought about donating the 2 animals to a zoo? You may get some tax relief with a donation.
  • I used to have monkeys myself - a couple of different kinds. One I had for quite awhile and we had a cage built for him and kept him in front yard - and very entertaining and great for conversation. He was a GOOD guard monkey and would scream if anyone got on my street period. Monkeys are very nasty animals even if they are cute. Hope they are trained or wear diapers. They get very attached, so your baboon may show signs of lonliness without his/her previous owner. They can also get lose and get in neighbor's homes and tear them up, on electrical wires and run the neighborhood - so be careful. One of mine was electricuted. Unfortunately one of them froze to death. Monkeys need lots of attention and company. They will get very lonely and die of lonliness without it - had that happen to a baby monkey I got at the mall too. Good luck. Post your best coins and leave in the plastic.

    Welcome from another newbie.

    Spend the coins, donate the baboon to a zoo and submit the wolf to ACG for grading...they've been known to handle some real dogsimage
