Just another cc morgan

stmanstman Posts: 11,352 ✭✭✭✭✭
I'm still trying to capture the color from my scanner on the pr66 morgan I have. So thought I'd play and post image of this coin till I can get better on the pr morgan. I'm not using any editing through software and I'm making scans to show every small mark and frostbreak. What would be your call on this one?

Thanks, Stman

  • Looks to be a little rub on the hair over the ear, and a little more on the eagle's breast. I'll hazard a guess of AU-55.

    Stman,

That's a neat looking CC. Kind of tough to grade from a scan, especially that area on the cheek, but I'd say MS66. How do you grade the piece?

OOps,forgot to mention, I'm getting all small marks and frost breaks to show but hair over ear and breast feathers are tough. I think it's getting some flash in those areas.

Hmmm...blast white dipped out huge gash under the 83 staple scratch going from chin to nose
monsterous ticks on rev that the arrows are pointing at & under STATES or is that remnants of an old print that didn't dip off?
What's going on with the date? Looks like some repunching or die chipping happening.
Smooth surfaces clean cheek, nice Proof 66!

  • To my (admittedly untrained) eye, I think it is a very beautiful coin! I'll go with the majority....imageimage

Hey Dog97, If thats a CC proof morgan than I'll retire as I might have the only one. But I'll bail you out on this one because we were talking about my pr morgan and I think you had proof in your mind.
So you get a walk on this one.image

Mentioning Proof twice in your initial posting had absolutely nothing to do with it. image

If anyones interested this coin is in a NGC holder graded ms66 pl.

It didn't capture the pl in the scan but is a very eye appealing coin.
These days if I want what I call 65 from years ago I have to buy 66.

Another beaut there stman. It's too bad that scanners don't show proof like features better. I've had the same problem.

Mrlee thanks, I did a dmpl the other day and it stood out dmpl to me. I've spent enough time on it that these are good enough for now. I've got it all set to where I scan, crop, and save. And thats it.

Great coin but good luck showing PL and DMPL on a scanner.

This is a 82-CC I posted a few months back. I could have played with it a little more but I wanted to show the marks. It's in getting graded right now. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Mrlee, looks nice!!! What are you hoping for on grade. I agree about wanting to show the marks. Thats what I do. I put it at a higher resolution to make sure.

I figured 64. The dealer I sent in with (strat) thinks it will go 65. I'm hoping for a DMPL. He says probably PL. It has real deep mirrors but the features aren't all that frosty. A 65 PL would be still be very nice image

BTW I picked it up raw on eBay.

It looks like it might make a 65, at least a 64, good luck.

MrLee it's well struck & frosty. Can't tell much about the mirrors but they look highly reflective, otherwise they wouldn't look black in your scan, they would be gray.
As far as the numerical grade I think the ticks on the face will make it 63, maybe 64.
Good luck & keep us posted!
