More Unusual Sample Slabs-Conder101 you might want to eyeball

My very first Numistrust. The stick on label on rev makes it look really cheap. I'm not impressed.
PCI is big and gawky I guess it had to be to carry the disclaimer on the rev which disclaimes everything.

I've always wondered why you'd want to look at a photograph of a coin when you can look at the coin right next to it.

To prove it's the same coin they just graded and nobody tried a switcheroo?

but if they wanted to switcheroo, wouldn't they switch and then photograph?
  • Having a little tiny picture of the coin in the holder is stupid and pointless. Who on earth brainstormed that idea?

I think ACG did. And no I didn't pay 250 for the coin on attachment.

  • Actually you could say that ANACS did since the first third party certifications were photocertificates. So it isn't too surprising that when ACG started the first slabs they retained the idea of having a photograph with the coin.

Thanks for the NTC and PCI sample scans Dog. Those were both new to me. I had suspected the NTC might exist but the PCI was a surprise. I was expecting it to be the HALLMARK style sample slab that they issued at FUN in 92. I think I have about 44 different sample slabs listed now including those two.

your comment about ANACS is interesting. i recently saw a coin "certified" by them that was little more than the coin, a paper certificate and a plastic bag that the whole works was in. was that where certification started? if it is, i'd say we've come a long way, baby!!!!! i'll see if i can get it from the owner and post a scan.

  • Yes Keets, that's how it all started. But the plastic bag you saw them in is probably somethig they were put in after they came back from ANACS. There are at least ten varieties of those ANACS certificates plus transfer certificates on possibly eight of them. So far only two varieties of Transfer certificates have been seen by me.
