How do you reduce the byte size of an icon image?

I would like to change my icon. Apparantly the board is allowing uploads today, but there is a 10 kb size limit and images I want to use are 33kb or larger. Is there a way to down size a jpeg image?

if using adobe photoshop, when saving, hit the advanced button and reduce the image quality. with the 100x100 probably won;t see a difference and file size is reduced dramatically.

  • Depends on what software you are using, Paint Shop pro lets you change the compression level via the save option. Also remember, you need it 100x100 as well.
    Sets Complete:
    Eisenhower Dollar, BU

    Set Incomplete:
    Roosevelt Dime
1900 - Current Type, No Gold
    Silver Eagle
  • You can use Adobe photoshop (if you have it) to crop and "rez down" the resolution of the image- but this will reduce quality. There is software that usually comes with scanners that does this as well. YOU could also crop unnecessary image area, scale down height and width, ect....

Thanks all. I did this in MS Photo Editor. Now the question is going to be how it looks uploaded as an icon.

Looks better than my new icon.

  • Mihov Image Resizer a free utility works great.

Here's the link Image Resizer Free Download - warning popups, but, I have been using the utility for months with no problems on both MS98 and XP. I use it for my auction pictures.
