It's Me. Was: Stiffed by Board Member??

It's me. Really. This is not a joke.
I'm the one that Wingsrule is ripping on. And based on the replies I scanned, pretty much everyone else
But that's ok. I think my position is reasonably defensable or at least understandable.
Thus, I'm going to try to explain it. I'm sort of a logic-thinker so I'm not going to write a poetic saga, just state my simple points or answers to the points originally presented.
1. I made the offer. It was accepted. Excellent!
2. Then, due to a "hair-brained scheme" the company I work with moved the central office of the business. (It was a "same-town" move but still a royal pain for me.)
3. As I am a key member, this caused my average response time on pretty much everyting, especially email and unfortunately coins to slow to less-than-a-snails-pace.
4. However, I was doing my best to respond to emails over the weekend.
5. To my knowlege, I had responded to all emails from Wingsrule prior to the one mentioned in his email.
6. NOTE: I was replying to all of them with a delay. I would pretty much reply to every email on the weekend, or rarely late at night when I decided to take a break and read a few emails.
7. As my life was pretty much turning chaotic, I asked Wingsrule for Fed Ex instructions. I stated to him that an office manager does the fed ex'ing but I had to handle my own "regular mail".
8. He refused this. (Side note: that did make me very nervous as I don't trust the mail and I certainly trust people with "PO Boxes" less than "real addresses")
9. So, when I had a free moment I went to the post office box near the office and threw in the letter.
10. Later he emailed me and I told him the day I sent it.
11. Then, the next thing I knew I read a letter that talked of the post that I am replying about.
12. I then read his other letter. SENT MONDAY. WHICH I HAD PREVIOUSLY NEVER READ. (See #4, #5, #6)
13. This letter had Fed Ex instructions as Wingsrule mentioned.
14. I just sent Wingsrule a reply to his letter informing me of the post to the message board.
15. In it, I reiterated that I had sent the letter.
16. Am I the only one that doesn't like the darn post office? I have had several leters lost this year and also a few packages. (Maybe Vegas has a terrible postal system, or maybe just my area of Vegas?)
Anyway, as stated in the email to Wingsrule, as long as he's nice to me I'll send the Fed Ex on Monday.
So, that's what happened.
Hey! Now everyone can rip on me and even use my real name Or not hopefully

My mistake I suppose, although I probably wouldn't really say anything if there was a next time either.
Oh well.
I decided it best if I read through all of the "anti-Barry" posts
I wish I hadn't, now I'll go to bed sad. Very sad. And I'm a very up-beat person.
Anyway, I'm not a "baby", I'll go play some "Star Wars Pinball" and forget about it
I appologize for the grief I caused. I certianly don't think that a few others are going to bed happy either with the venomous replys they sent.
I think that I am being falsely accused. That's my opinion.
I appreciate the opinions of the others that feel differently.
Thanks. Actually if it weren't me being pounded on, I'd probably be enjoying that thread. Good drama
You have sure done it now. We'll have to call in the vigilantes, the posse comitatus will have to disband for a while. No more witch hunts for the weekend. You've really ruined things!
Just hope you feel triple-guilty about confessing and killing all the suspense. Ah, what will the self-righteous have to keep themselves busy with for the next 24 hours? SHAME, SHAME, SHAME on YOU for spoiling all the speculation and anticipation. We might not even be able to have a public hanging after all - and I so much wanted to bring the children to watch! Bad, bad, bad.
Oh yes, I do think your paranoia about the US Postal Service is a little strange. Would you like to hear some stories about UPS that will scare the USPS paranoia right out of you?
Thank you for your attention.
Oh ,and the cat is hairy too.
Please see the thread on "The tone thing" by Indianbyran. There is a reason why the cat is called a "blue-silver" Maine Coon.
As for the USPS thing, I've received a number of items that were all chopped up (and then repaired by tape- thanks USPS). I once received a letter in a "body bag" that had a check in it from an ebay customer. The vital information on the check was torn off. I had to tell the buyer to send another check. Things like this happen.

it's a plus that you owned up even though you didn't have to
and yes, the post office bites a big one - somehow they delivered a $500 coin to me while I was in another state (insured and delivery receipt) - talk about a pain in the rear
OK - we'll see what happens.

Barry, you did the right thing by trying to explain.

Also - any offers I have made that were accepted were immediately and instantly paid for. The shipping was immediate, or, if delayed, it was explained and anticipated in advance.
Some of these folks here tell me up front that they are slow and move like snails - which is okay if you want to wait. If you don't want to wait - don't make a deal with them...your choice. Others move like "The Flash", which, to me anyway, given the information age technology and the lightening communication tools we now have, should be the NORMAL and not the exception.
In the future, I am sure it will be a pleasing experience to deal with many more of the kind people here. I look forward to near instantaneous transactions, or, at least a LOT of information on when the payment or shipment will arrive.
For a deal to be struck, and then it take 6 weeks for the transaction to be completed is TOTALLY unacceptable given the information technology and the instant online payment options we have today.
That being said - there are, of course, going to be exceptions and explanations....
I had a project posted on a scripting freelance board which was accepted. I sent over the parameters of the project, the guy said he would get on it and be finished in a few days.
I stopped hearing from him. A month went by - I sent e-mails daily to no avail. What a deadbeat! Right???
Wrong - the guy was in a serious car accident - his wife respoonded to all of his e-mails but it took her quite some time to get to them all. I heard from her after 2 months and she basically apologized to everyone and explained what had happened. Her husband was STILL in a hospital.
IMO, a perfectly understandable occurance and fully forgiveable....obviously. But the current matter before the forum....
hmmmm...I don't know...

You really have that much trouble with the post office?
Looking for PCGS AU58 Washington's, 32-63.
We'll use our hands and hearts and if we must we'll use our heads.
It is none of my business to know about your business!
Just my two pennies.
(edit: I guess I should've posted this to the original thread....I want to commend barrytrot for coming forward to face the mob...couldn't have been easy, but probably better than continuing to read the accusations and the name-calling)
Excellent 2 cent piece! Astute observation and one that everyone should keep in mind in the future.
Wanna sell it?
The 2 cent piece?

Personally, I have had financial dealings with several members of this forum. Those transactions/dealings have only been accomplished AFTER a good bit of PMing back and forth. I felt like I KNEW or had a feel for the person I was dealing with before we reached an agreement. Each one has been a pleasant experience - some even Very Good (thanks Jeremy)

"Barrytrot, You really have that much trouble with the post office?"
Well, I have 2 insurance claims pending. I also have lost a total of 6 letters (assuming I'm counting this one).
My main trouble is the "trouble" that I have in getting something to them. I don't have anyone that does mailings around me so I have to go down and buy stamps (which I did last time so that's no longer an issue, but was at the time of this event) and then put them in the mail box. Easy I know, but still way less painful than forwarding an email to the Fed Ex person on staff (who does much more than Fed Ex but that is one of her duties).
"edited for Cacheman: 6 weeks is too long"
I totally agree. I didn't wait 6 weeks to do anything. After a week, 10 days tops and my knowledge that I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off I requested Fed Ex info so someone else could take care of it.
The rest of the delay was after that and some of it was also after I actually sent the check.
In the Seattle area, you can't even get in the door (the USPS infrastructure hasn't kept up with growth). I always bring a book. Then there is the 30 minute wait while the folks who don't speak English get their packages wrapped (they bring in birthday presents UNWRAPPED) and expect the guy behind the counter to do it for them. Why do they oblige?? Let's not get into the recent postal price increase. I've had a couple packages disappear this summer too.
My best story/worst experienjce was a piece of english stoneware I bought through ebay. It arrived, the package trashed and the item broken (only the lid). I took it to the PO to make a insurance claim (another 30 minute wait). The USPS person behind the counter spoke poor english but seemed to understand it was a insurance claim. She then mailed it to me w/o rewrapping it and now it was in a thousand pieces. So, back to the PO again, another 30 minute wait, same person, so I finally convinced her to let me speak to her English speaking supervisor. It finally got resolved. I now notify ebay sellers that they will have to deal with the claims process if the item is lost or damaged (why not - they're the ones who didn't wrap or ship it properly). If they don't agree, I don't bid.
Any wonder why the USPS competition is thriving??
I also appreciate what wingsrule did and how he did it. These types of public warnings are a valuable tool in this unpoliced arena, and can sometimes be ones only recourse.
I think everything will work out ok here so can we do our group hug now so I can go mow my lawn?
Wish I could go mow my lawn - it's rainy and blustery and getting cold here in the south...

Do you ever post anything that's not an attack on others? Maybe someday.
Some folks said this should have been handled privately but it was ok to post it here since it was between board members and originated from the CU boards.
Both parties told their side.
No name calling or mudslinging. That was cool.
Nothing underhanded or fraudulant going on.
Everybody still likes both of you guys.
It shows we are all human and not perfect.
You should pay more attention to your dealing though. The reason I say that is because if a member here buys something from me on the BST Board or eBay and I just happen to be going to the Post Office the next day I will go ahead and mail coin without waiting on the payment to arrive because when it arrives I might be busy like you were and not be able to get to the PO in a timely manner so I like to go ahead and get it out of the way. If I mailed you a coin and still hadn't received payment after a month I can't say I would be as nice as Wingsrule was.
Not to belabor this point, but I believe I read that Wingy didn't mail the coin initially. In fact, I don't recall reading that Wingy has yet mailed the coin. The apparent protocol was that Wingy was going to receive payment before shipping said coin to B-Trot. Hence, Wingy had no legal recourse to fraud.
Wow! I finally managed to post on this issue without actually taking sides...

DCAM:
What's with the attitude? If you have an issue with Russ, I respectfully suggest that try a more pleasant approach first. Besides, it's not like he actually used profanity... I mean, I use ``friggin'' in my posts every now and then, and no one seems to mind. We're all adults here, y'know?!?
Moreover, who nominated you to be the judge, jury and executioner of content around here?
If you could be more tolerant, I think that would be helpful. After all, Russ had every reason to be a little bit ticked off. From left field, he was accused of something...
Finally, I think your disallowing of PM's makes the handling of touchy matters even touchier. It's your right, of course, to config your profile how you wish. But, the PM system can act as a way of taking a person away from the fray and speaking to that person without the interference from the din of the public to-and-fro.

EVP
