Ok some help on how to tell the difference between a micro S and a normal S on a 1945 mercury

I need help I picked up 4 of the 6 remaining mercury's I need today. The only ones I need now are of course the 1916D and the 1945 micro S. I need help I dont have a clue on what or how to tell the difference between them. COME ON YOU COIN BRAINS. Give a nice guy a hand and show me the way. Seriously pictures of the difference between them diagnostics on them . Anything that will give me some help ...Heck if you even have one thats circulated and a resonable price and your willing I might be willing to buy it from you thanks in advance...

  • The micro S is a lot smaller than the normal S. You can tell the difference as soon as you see it.

    One's big and one's little.

    Oh.

lathmath already posted something to that effect.

    PM to follow.

The most money I made are on coins I haven't sold.

    Got quoins?
  • Byron, I have a pic of one in my merc set . Take a look at it.

The micro-S is not rare, and can be easily cherrypicked. In lower grades
it is often just tossed in with the "junk" dimes. It was a hot commodity
in the 60's, but collectors mostly lost interest. Go figure.

  • Here you go Byron.

Not sure about 'easily found'. My counterpart went through a bag of dimes put away in the '80s. About 10% were Mercs. From that, he found 2 micro 's' coins.

    Others experience may differ.

  • They can be found but as Coulport says, they're not easily found.
I went through about 4000 mixed junk mercuries and found only one.
