Here's a 1861 Eagle that I bought off of Ebay. It was in an ACG holder which I cracked out and sent to PCGS. PCGS graded the coin and is now in one their slabs. What was the ACG grade and what is the PCGS grade?
Always buying music cards of artists I like! PSA or raw! Esp want PSA 10s 1991 Musicards Marx, Elton, Bryan Adams, etc. And 92/93 Country Gold AJ, Clint Black, Tim McGraw PSA 10s
Ok, it was graded by ACG as MS-60 and then PCGS graded it AU-53. Not too bad as I only paid AU money for it. My biggest concern when buying it was whether it was genuine or had been cleaned. Now that it is in a PCGS holder, I'm happy.
i'm assuming you know gold well and were certain this piece was genuine. i know squat about gold so it's a chance i never would have entertained. nice pick. i'll bet you got it for a good price.

Tom- You paid AU money for the coin and now it resides in a PCGS AU-53 holder. I would think you came out OK on this coin. Not a perfect example, however, sometimes the ACG coin goes sooooo cheap, if you get the coin to cross reasonably close, you come out a BIG winner. Without question if you know how to grade accurately, it makes great economic sense to pay attention to the ACG coins, see if you can buy them "right" and then crack them out for a new holder. People who summarily dismiss the ACG holder as "AccuTrash" are being foolish. Probably 25% of those ACG coins are "diamonds in the rough" just waiting for an astute collector to put them a quality holder and pocket the profits!
Yesterday, I had a dealer friend show me a ACG MS-67 Liberty Nickel that he had bought for grins. I kid you not when I say that the coin fairly graded out problem-free, as a GD-06 piece. No Liberty across the headband, but solid rims.

Just in case you don't realize it someone took the original coin out and replaced it with this circ coin.

I believe I nicknamed the service "AccuCRAP", thank you very much!
I saw it too - hilarious. Tells you something about the security of the ACG holders...
