I've been eyeing this one for the last ten years. Unless there are other PCGS PR06's (doubt it) I've seen it with Bowers/Merena- eBay and one was on Teletrade many years ago.

(Greg- this is the one I was telling you about at Long Beach...)

  • I remember seeing this one at a Bowers sale last year and later on E-Bay.

I know it sounds wierd but I think that is the most attractive Gobrecht dollar I have ever seen. I have seen a lot of these in PF-50 through PF-65 and none of them impressed me. But this one I find very appealing.

This is a very interesting coin. I dont follow this series, can you give me an estimate of value? I think a lot of folks would be interested to know what a PF06 dollar is worth.

Since PR06's trade so infrequently, it would be really hard to peg an accurate price. It's one of those coins I wish I could apply the price curve to, but know it wouldn't work (e.g. if a somewhat scarce date Morgan trades for $10,000 in MS-67 but can be had for $10 in G06, I'd love to be able to get a Gobrecht dollar that sells for $50,000 in PR-67 for only $50).

The value of these remains with the rarity of the coin and not so much with the grade. I would pay as much for this one as an impaired PR50. It is much more pleasing.

Although I think the asking price is a bit steep, here is a circulated example of a famous rarity:

  • Jon,
Is that the same one that Reeded Edge had on Ebay? I LOVE that coin!

  • KK, odds are extremely high it is the same piece. How many GD-06's have you seen for this issue?

So is the reverse of that coin the inspiration for the flying eagle cent? Look so similar.
