RESULTS! "antique steamer trunk full of coins"

the link: antique steamer trunk full of coins

the cost: $12 w/ shipping

the shipping: reasonably fast, about 6 days, & s+h were consistent w/ reality

the verdict: 82 coins in all, including a 1936-d merc, 1936 buff, 1888 ihc in corroded fine & a 1943 steel cent, satisfying the "seeds" for the lot. included were 1910, 1913, 1915pd, 1916, 1917pd, 1919s, 1920pds, 1921ps, 1924s, & several m/m coins from the latter 20's & 30's. there were about 10 "uncs", but all were form the 1950's. estimated retail: 8-10 bucks, so not exactly a scam, but nothing to be thrilled about either.

i suspect that it's not a bad value for a complete coin newbie, as the fun of going through such a lot may be worth a couple bucks. i plan to give the coins as a birthday present to a nephew.

bottom line: NOT a scam, but not a bargain, either

just my 2 cents worth!

Anyone who advertises an unsearched cheast and sends common stuff with seeds is a scammer.

This scumbag seller also negs anyone who gives them a neg or neutral.

Were you able to verify the truth of the story?

did not attempt to verify the story, but the email exchanges (once i got past the automated generating stuff) were pleasant enough. frankly, the story was secondary to my objective, which was to see if such a auction would produce a reasonable product for the price. it was acceptable in that regard.

  • Wonder where she got that old steamer as a prop? If there is any truth to anything she said, I would be very suprized.

I actually bought one of these unsearched wheatie batches (different seller) a while back and ended up getting most of the coins free. Besides the usual salt, (worthless Buffs), there was a clipped planchet steel in the batch. Sold it on eBay for about what I paid for the wad.

    Karl -

Thanks for the 'journey into the hoard morass' and the FB of the results. I saw this auction while browsing and came to the conclusion of most ... 'unsearched by the new owner'
