This thread is reserved for any numismatic topics that do not involve die crack proof coins.

For example, who do you think has been the most infuential in the coin world in the last 10 years? Person or company?

How about people like Q David Bowers and JP Martin?
  • I'd have to agree about the US Mint. Their programs have introduced many people to coin collecting who wouldn't have otherwise been so inclined.

I would submit that the Internet in general, and not just eBay in particular, has changed the way coins are bought, sold and researched forever.

I really don't consider any one person to be particularly influential except in the institutions (be they businesses or other entities) that remain and will remain long after they pass from this world.

Charlie's got a point about the Internet. It's interesting how some thought it would make remote "sight-seen" trading possible. Clearer minds know that images can lie as well as words, though some eBay sellers don't accept returns since their picutres supposedly "say it all."

The net definitely has made me spend more money. Seeing all those awesome frosted gold St. Gaudens 2 years ago on ebay made me lust for coins again after 10 years. Spent myself silly. Then spent myself silly on the slab game but not doing slabs so much right now. Costs too much when I could use that money on COINS! Unless it's an expensive or valuable coin. Or if some nice person can get them through more cheaply for me... image
