Buffalo fans, how scarce is the 1938-D/D?

I saw a price list that had the '38-D/D in MS-64 for $59 dexcribed as "Bold over mintmark." How many varieties are there? Four or so? What is the relative scarcity and approximate price of each in MS-65?

Is there any premium for barely visible over mintmarks (as opposed to the bold ones)?

Not very scarce at all.
I don't know for sure how many RPM's there are for the 38 d/d but your price sounds right in line.

The 38 d/s OMM has 4 varieties, I think, with the one being the most valuable. I think that one is the D/D/D/S possibly.

I have four uncirculated ones I bought as a kid. Another kid down the street got a roll of them somewhere. The doubling is quite noticeable, but I have no idea what variety they are.

Is it possible that the "normal" mintmark variety is scarcer than all combined OMM varieties? That is, even though one or more OMM varieties may be scarciest, is it more common to find the normal variety or an OMM on a random purchase? Does anyone have info on the number of dies used to strike '38'D's?

I think these over-MM things are way overblown. I got a 38-D/S and the ONLY reason I bought it was because of the nice toning. If I find a regular 38-D with nicer toning I'll probably sell the one I already have.

None are really rare. These coins were saved in such large quantities that there are enough to go around for everyone.

There is no chance that the "normal" mintmark is scarcer than the RPMs and OMMs.

You can cherrypick these RPM/OMMs with ease.
