Hey, I liked the "rib smoker" thing and will defend its4real (a little). With the addition of our latest troll, he looks better all the time.

Hey, wait a minute... its4real said he was from Alabama. KINCOIN is from Alabama...

Nah. It's just a coincidence. Its4real is far classier.

Hahahaha. They are both from Alabama. Hmmm...

You know about the four Alabama boys that drove their pickup into the pond, right?

The two in the cab got out OK, but the two in the back drowned, unfortunately. They couldn't get the tailgate down.

    (Yeah, I know- that's a moldy oldie.)

Hi Pat. I see you've met quite of few of the Forum Members here. Unfortunately things don't seem to be going real well. Maybe if you tried introducing yourself, telling us how long you've been collecting and what you like to collect, things might ease up on you a little. After all, sharing is what this forum is all about. Personally, I've been curious on how you came to determine the prices for some of your coins on eBay. Perhaps you would shread some light on that too. Thanks again for joining us today. It's made for an interesting Thursday.

I am always looking for a good deal on proof die cracks. The new proofs are harder and harder to find recently since quality control weeds them out.The value in these error coins is that they are just as rare as pf-70 coins or more.
This is no ordinary error. It is a proof error that is supposed to be inspected before leaving the mint. They should have never left the mint and most of them were found but only a few slipped past. Uncle Sam was derelict in his duties once again for letting things just pass by. It is a very rare coin just for that reason.
What makes a rock like a diamond worth millions they are not rare there a millions of them out there? People pay millions for rocks.

All of these posts and threads, and all of this rage and sarcasm, because some guy is asking a very high price for a modern coin that he believes is a "rare" coin. Sounds like a lot of other guys out there (some of whom are welcome members of this fourm) who sell as "condition rariites"ultra high MS versions of coins we spend every day. The only difference is this guy is asking a price so high that so far no one has bought, and anyone with those kind of bucks to spend can easily obtain professional opinions as to the value of the coin. I think Mad Marty hit the nail on the head in his post in the original thread about this fellow and his Mass state quarter.
  • cladkingcladking Posts: 28,534 ✭✭✭✭✭
It doesn't matter whether this coin is 2 years old or two hundred years old. Price
is always determined by supply and demand. Whatever the supply of this coin may
be, there is a relatively small demand.

Offering a high grade modern for lots of money five years ago could have brought
a similar response. Today there is a market for these coins. Yes, it's in it's infancy
but there is a demand being met with a supply at a price. If someone asked many
multiples of this going price he may also get a similar response.

There are several issues here which should be kept in perspective, but the age of
the coin would not seem to be one of them.

    CladKing,

Don't be so defensive. My point is that people are dumping all over this guy but don't dump on others who deal in high priced moderns.

Edited to Add: Do I think his ebay auction is absurd? Yeah. But so what.

    CalGold;

You persist in implying that anyone who sells "pocket change" for high
prices is equivalent to the seller of a commodity at far higher than nor-
mal or expected market prices and suggest I not be so defensive. This
should be easier were my ox not being gored.

Anybody remember that guy named PennyDime that trolled the error boards last year with his ACG penny on dime (ACG's designation, really cent on dime planchet) that he was trying to sell for $1,000,000.00?

Dog, I need a good bed time story. Will you tell us about PennyDime?
  • Dog97Dog97 Posts: 7,874 ✭✭✭
    MrLee,
He reminds me of Kincoin kinda. PennyDime had a Lincoln struck on a dime planchet, maybe it was struck on a struck dime, I don't remember, anyway it was worth about $200 on a dime planchet & $500 on a struck dime, it was pretty cool, looked like a silver cent. It was slabbed by ACG as a Penny on Dime, real professional you know, instead of properly designated as Cent on Dime whatever. He kept making about 5 million posts about how valuable it was and how it was worth a million dollars. He even had a website dedicated to it. Are the ErrorWorld members tried to explain to him how it was neat but not exceddingly rare or valuable, even the big error dealers tried to tell him but he insulted them too. So I posted a pict of my 1997 Cent on Dime & my 1997 Cent on Dime Planchet, slabbed by PCGS, the premier 3rd party grading service. image I got both since I'm an error collector you see. I bragged about what a deal I got on mine since I only paid $475 for my "Penny Dime" on eBay. I didn't flame him though because I figured he was either a troll or crazy.
