Do you ever buy a coin for no rhyme or reason?

This one fits NO where in the scheme of my collection. -Won't fit in the Registry!
But, I honestly thought, outside the damage, it had better detail than just VG08 and just struck me as a cool coin.

I didn't bid that high, but the winning bid was a bit under my maximum. It wasn't a "Russ" quality snipe, but I did wait until the last 15 seconds or so, just in case.

Yes, like the one in the pics below. Heck, I don't know why, but I just liked it. Maybe because I like halves. The reverse contains an anchor, a sword, a vertical indian peace pipe, cornucopias, and a folded union jack, topped with a crown, made by Rowe Kentish & Co, bank agents. Their initials are on the obverse. True Canadian government coins didn't hit the street until 1858, eh! Best $4.00 I've spent lately.

If it looks cool...and the price seems reasonable....yes....it doesn't matter to me the denomination, the variety, the mint, or the country....as long as it is not starting to corrode (A.K.A. toning, AT or otherwise)....just my opinion....

A number of coins that I have bought have fallen into the "Hey! That's cool (or different or interesting or so ugly I just gotta have it)!" category. It is part of the fun for me to find those things that don't particularly fit into any collection but I just have to buy.

Yes, when I bought this coin (Obverse, Reverse) I'd never bought anything remotely similar. It just seemed cool so I found a place for it in my collection.

I couldn't have said it better Most of the coins I buy are for me, ( I've bought a couple of "hoards" recently and have kept what I liked and am selling the rest on eBay).....but that's just me....

Yes, especially when I'm flipping around ebay on a Sunday afternoon. I've accumulated an odd assortment of rolls and mint sets and other things I don't have a particular need for. About once a year, I feel a compulsion to buy a Roman coin.

Yes, alot. I nearly put a down payment on a $4K 1796 ef dime today. It fits nowhere in my collection except that it would be the best coin in my collection. I still might do that.

I have trouble passing on S mint Morgan dollars that grade MS64 to MS66. Especially PQ coins. I know they are very common and are not a good investment but every 6 months or so I come home with one.
