My local coin club

In April 03 our club will be putting on our annual coin show. We are running low on funds (renting the building...) and we don't want to raise the table fees anymore so we were thinking of putting on a raffle. What would be some good raffle prizes that don't cost alot?? Where could we get some cheaper things that people might be interested in. Any help would be very much appreciatedimage If we don't raise money douring the next show the show will probably have to be canceledimage

Again thank you for any ideas

  • Why not put together low end coin sets? I'm sure between all of the members you can find some low end coins and put them into sets in Whitman Folders or Dansco Albums and offer them for raffle???? Just a thought...

  • My club has two shows per year and we sell raffle tickets for each one. Each show we raffle a $10 Liberty or Indian gold coin, a $100 bill, 5-Morgans(BU), a $5 American Gold Eagle and a Silver Eagle. The gold coins and the Morgans are supplied, by dealers who belong to the club, at cost. The raffles constitute nearly all that we profit from each show. I.E., this spring, we sold $1309 in raffle tickets and had a profit from the show if $1302. We have about 25-30 active members and our show has 42 tables with 24 dealers. Hope this info helps you some.

Our coin club raffle is an"all gold "raffle.I have 1000 raffle tickets printed for,First prize is 1/4 OZ gold Eagle,2ND-Fifth prize is an asortment of 1/10 gold prizes. We sell evey ticket. The cost is about $300.00(the printing of the tickets cost about $50.00).We make $750.00,some of this profit helps to feed the dealers. We make at least $500 a yeas for owr club.We also make money on the renting of tables for the show, the dealers eat GOOD.WE also make money on a meeting night though the nightly raffle(if enough tickets are sold,a gold 1/10 oz coin is added). We pay $45. a meeting(twice a month) for rent.We also make money hosting a State Show with the ,MSNS,Thats the Michigan State Show Held every spring and fall.

I think as long as it doesn't cost the club any money,a coin show is a public servise.People like to win GOLD.

  • Our club show:
    1st prize=$10 gold eagle
    2nd prize=$50 bill
    3rd prize=$20 bill
Hourly drawings for $1 silver eagles. With this, the tickets are recycled into the rest for the drawings for the top 3 prizes.
    Brings in about $1000-$1200 gross.
We have 40 tables, about 25 dealers.

  • if you had 2-3 the dealers pay for their tables by donating stuff for the raffle, would your club make more money? It's just a thought. What area are you in?

Silver dollars are always popular for a raffle. They can be common dates in F to VF. A 1/10 Gold Eagle wouldn't be out of line either.

Are you charging admission to the show? Some clubs refuse to do that and just keep jacking up the table fees. A dollar or so isn't going to break anyone and if your club is that strapped for cash, every bit helps.

With a tight budget, advertising drops to a minimum. Attendance drops. Dealers quit coming. A downward spiral for sure. I hope this isn't happening to your club.

    Good luck.

The most money I made are on coins I haven't sold.

  • A coin show I go to used to do a 50/50 raffle. Most everyone was happy to put up at least a couple of bucks - even the dealers.

I also like the idea of raffling off some gold - even if it's just a 1/10th Eagle. Everyone likes a little gold.

Or, you could try getting a dealer or two to donate a 10% off coupon. They could even make it 10% off a $100 purchase or more. That way the dealer makes money and the club makes money.
