Toning Fans! - check this gold 81 JFK

I'm not a huge fan of toning, but thought some of you would appreciate this -
1981 S - PCGS PR69DCAM

The coin is exhibiting very even toning both obverse and reverse. I almost looks gold-plated.
very interesting.




I was shooting for color rather than mirrors, so the depth isn't quite there.
Couldn't get both in one shot.

If anybody has a blast-white PR69DCAM they'd maybe like to swap....
Just an idea.

Was it like that when you got it in the slab or did it change to this "tone" since you've had it?....just curious..

It was gold when it arrived. One of those 'sight-unseen' L&C Coin auctions.
It's a beautiful coin, and was correctly graded I believe.

I was going through my coins, and it just seems so out-of-place amongst the white ones -
so I thought I'd try to capture the color.

I wonder if there's any prevelance toward gold-toning in any given year?

Good Question Dan,
Since I'm new to the hobby, (have been collecting for 30+ years just because a coin "looks cool", but I'm just learning the true meaning of coin collecting, IE, grading, varieties, etc), I couldn't really answer that question, but I have been perusing auctions etc, and I've yet to see anything like that....it's kinda' cool actually....

I bought two Kennedy proofs from them and was very unsatisfied, they sell so cheap on Ebay w/no picture(no wonder) because they carry the bottom of the barrel for the grade.

I've bought boatloads of Kennedy's from them. I've also received some that I found less then acceptable. I simply returned the coins and got nice replacements.

I don't mind at all. $17.38

There was no mention of color. I've been very happy with my L&C purchases.
In fact - on one coin, the auction listed a PR68DCAM (during one of those buying flurries)
and I sniped it without realizing it was a grade below target.

When it arrived - - PR69DCAM.

I know this is not the BST forum, but if any of y'all have some toned JFK's that are messin' up your blast white set. Let me know...I would be interested in taking it off your hands to help restore order to your set

I have a bunch of proofs from the 70's and early 80's that I bought as individual coins. I put them in 2x2 cardboard/mylar flips about 18 years ago and they all have various shades of gols toning. Some are even, others deeper at the periphery and lighter toward the middle. The are all CAMs, so they make nice looking coins. It's note my area of collecting interest anymore so I have not had them slabbed.
