  • Yeah, but what happens if the guy who buys one of those, manages to get one into a holder? That one looks really AT, but maybe some of his other creations look better!

Why would anyone buy one. Just heat up the torch! image

  • Looks like the same guy that started out with the State Quarters a couple years ago, at least he tells you for the newbies that might otherwise not have a clue.
  • Andy007:

Is he telling newbies that it's a AT coin - so don't buy it - or is he saying look at the cool things you can do with a blowtorch - buy some as gifts - a rat will always smell as foul.

"The reverse is beautiful as well."

the least he could do is post a picture of a beautiful bikinied woman with the old, "don't have to see her reverse to know she's beautiful."
  • I agree!

  • The tone lovers should be thrilled. Now they can have beautifully toned coins anytime they want. Just like painted coins they can be made to order. If they love to look at a beautiful toned coin, who care if its real or not.

Except someone who's been paying 10Xbid for some. image
  • Come on, admit it. If this coin were in a PCGS holder, you folks would be paying $1000.

This is the problem with the current craze for "toned" coins. The demand for odd colors is now inducing people to destroy coins with blow torches. In years to come collectors will say, "at the turn of the century it was popular to artificially tone coins with blow torches and similar implements to change the color of the coin. These coins are currently valued far lower than list prices and of little to no numismatic interest." This is like the whizzed Indian Head cents or the rather overcleaned East Asian silver coins that were once popoular among Japanese colllectors. It rends my heart to think of all the people out there who are destroying coins to feed the demand for "montser toning" and make a quick buck. To you tone heads out there, I point the finger of accusation at YOU! Stop this tone madness and save our numismatic heritage!

  • I made one just as nice while I was roasting a turkey.
