Ebay rookie question

I have a stellar ebay feedback of (1). I recently won an auction that listed two contradictory shipping costs (both fair), and had no specific instructions (i.e. "wait for my email", "use checkout", etc.) for sending payment, just an address. I used Checkout and asked them to verify my total. How long do I wait for a reply? Should I just send my check for the higher shipping without a reply? What's the proper protocol?

To me - a good line of communication actually speeds things up in the end - making it usually worth the wait before making an assumption. The fact that you're asking about this is a good thing.
I'll usually wait up to about three days, then send another (gentle) email.

Sellers that list their address in the listing usually mean for you to go ahead and send the payment.
I forgot to pay a seller one time and eBay sent me a reminder about a month later. So I click on the auction link to see what I didn't pay for and I see that the desripition said "You will not be contacted after this auction. Please send payment to the above address." No wonder I forgot.
Use the ask seller a ? to ask for total again and if he doesn't answer you send a payment for the lowest amount. Maybe one amount was insured & the other wasn't.
