May have been flim-flammed

Bought a 58"unopened proof set" from vernon coin on Sept. 6. Payed by paypal. Started sending 2 or 3 e-mails for the last 3 days as I have had no response from the seller at all. No response still. Glad it was only 33.00 bucks. Guess a coinrookie needs to learn these lessons.

  • as a buyer, it is so frustrating to not get a response from the seller. I am in the midst of two now. I bought a proof set on August 6 and still have not received the merchandise. I took a full month to get a total cost, which included e-mailing daily, as well as at least 10 phone calls, only to get "he's not in right now".

I bought a few coins from a dealer and it took ten days to get a total plus combined shipping - and I had to call to do so, as all emails were ignored.

I just sent out a $400.00 Money Order and am sweating the receipt of the coins.

CoinRookie, its only been a week. I won 2 auctions from R&I Coins on Sep. 6th as well, paid em over the phone with a credit card and I too have not received the coins, but I am patient and trust them. I bought a MS65 Franklin from them (not an ebay auction) and got da goods in 2 days. Maybe they are slower with the auction stuff?

    coinrookie,

How's his feedback, and how long has he been on eBay? It might be a little early to start getting worried. Could be on vacation, could be tied up getting the kids re-oriented to school, or could just be one of those sellers that's slower then we buyers like.

  • Mr Lee. That is the sellers name vernon.coin
Russ, he has been around since 98 and only has 12 negs Out of 5000+ comments. I know no prize coins from a dealer that size, probably resealed the envelope aft but I figured maybe some that are okay, thought it was worth a shot at that price.

  • It's been only a week. Some sellers are slow to ship. One of my ebay auction items didn't show up until over a month after it ended. Some sellers lose track of all of their items. I have had only one seller not ship me the item. The coin was incorrectly sent to another bidder of a similar item. The seller said a refund or a replacement would be sent and apologized. I said that I preferred a refund and never heard from the seller again. According to the ebay listings, the seller was raising money for a memorial for her son who commited suicide and she had been laid off from Enron. It was a small amount ($10) for a common proof set, so I was not too upset about it.

  • I recently bought an 86 Prestige set on e-bay. Readily available and low priced, and I have been filling out my collection of Prestige sets a few at a time. Very good seller, really prompt and the package came well packed and protected. When I opened the set, I found the Commemorative half had been replaced with a second 86 Kennedy proof. Considering how low priced many of these sets are (I think I paid $24.00), I probably had more value with the extra Kennedy than I did with the Commemorative.

In any event, I contacted the buyer via email and he responded immediately, offered to take the set back and I did not even need to bring up the cost of the return shipping. The seller was OEF Coins, and I commend him for his professionalism.

Sometimes R&I isn't the fastest out the door. I just purchased an NGC washington *, it was a cameo obverse and almost cameo on the back a 1966 SMS. Since it was my first * purchase I was eager to get a glance at it. What a shock when I opened the package and it was the wrong coin. A phone call and a nice apology from a very nice young lady who coincendently was leaving that day for maternity leave, and the coin showed up two days later. They even offered to send me a check or credit for the postage to return it. Second coin I have purchased from them, both nice washingtons.

It seems like the slowest respone is always the one I'm waiting for right now. Kind of a weird universal constant, the worse you want it, the slower time marches on.

I too would encorage a little more patience. Things will work out for the best.
