Because it's not worth the cost of regrading?

Not a bad looking Morgan. If you think it has a chance for 65, send it in.

  • again, the 30 dollar difference in price makes it not really worth it

Probably not, but if you're wanting it in the registry or something it'd be worth it.
  • Placid, these are all going to the kid one day.
To be honest I thought it looked Way to good to be in a 64 holder.
I may be immature to grading but why only 65.what is holding it back from 66?I guess that would be my real Question.

To me the surface just seems too scruffy to be a 66. Might just be the picture thou.

  • Dude.....Thats sweet.

Gray sheet for MS 65 is only $70 bid so spending the grading fee does not seem worthwhile
  • Thanks for all your opinions. You guy's are pretty cool in the help dept.
I still have 4 free submissions from when I joined PCGS.
I'm gonna be a crackin soon.

  • MAULUMALL,

Way to go on that purchase! That does look like a super nice coin for the grade that it was given. Look it over once you get it in, and if it appears as nice then, by all means go for it!

That's one lovely coin. But, after 17 years of certified grading, when you buy an already certified coin from a big dealer, its probably safe to assume the grade has already been maxed out.
  • I'm pretty new at grading in the MS range also, but i would think the bag/contact marks would keep it about 65.

Let us know, though. Besides, it's a free sub, right? Go for it.

It's well struck and ther periph tone looks neat but the fingerprints lessens the appeal. I don't think it would 66 because of the tick on the cheek and the disturbances in the field. Star R-1 has a smashed tip and there are ticks on the cap and behind the head.
The rev has quite a few fair sized ticks & scrapes. It would be doing good to make 65.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
  • Thank you dog.Thats an answer I can respect.
    Well thought out and stated.
I'm gonna crack it any way. It's a freebe so whats ta loose. Thanks to all who responded.

The Big Dog has spoken! image I agree. I think there are also a few too many bumps on the rim for 66, but you definitely got a very nice coin as graded, and a raw submission MAY very well get you a 65. The ONLY reason I would resubmit it though is for uniformity of my collection, as my slabs are predominantly PCGS. If you want it upgraded to sell, well, why not just refuse to accept less than you want, and let the coin sell itself OR is it more like an exercise in grading for you?

A 64 any day of the week. Probably 65. On a really good day 66. Attractive album toning and undeniable eye appeal.
    I collect circulated U.S. silver
  • It looks like a PQ MS64 to me. I don't think it would go to MS65. There's just too many marks in the fields.

  • It could 65 but is a PQ64 for sure. I like the rim toning. The coin really has 65 eye appeal but the field ticks may hold it to a 64. Eye appeal adds a little and forgives a lot. I think it may be worth a shot as one of your free submissions. Good Luck!
