Challenge: Begin and finish a Registry in 24 hours.

Could you do it? Grade doesn't matter, completeness is all that counts. What Registry would you pick knowing you've got to start from scratch (no fair using coins you already own). You are allowed to go to your favorite coin shop(s) and buy from eBay (BIN's, obviously, or closing auctions)- but ALL the coins must be entered into the Registry by the time the 24 hours is up!

Could you do it?

Sure, you only need two Proof Sac's.

I swear, I really thought I had thought this one through, but missed that! Good point with the Proof Sacawageas...
Oh well! It sounded like a cool contest!

Trivia: NGC doesn't have a Proof Sacawagea Registry.

Proof statehoods in 69DCAM. I could buy them all in 1 hour.

  • Excellent choice, Greg. That reminded me that complete sets of MS or PR Silver Eagles are readily available as well.

  • This brings up an interesting contest. Perhaps it would be a fun challenge to see who could put together a registry set in 24 hours without having to purchase the coins. Instead, you would provide links to each coin for sale on various websites (eBay, Heritage, etc). They would have to be for sale at the moment...no fair going into the auction archives! Might be kind of a fun challenge on some of the sets...

If grade doesn't matter and you've got the cash then most sets, even the large sets, could be put together. I don't think a Morgan set would be too much of a challenge.

The only sets that would be near impossible to complete would be the gold sets.

I agree with Greg, if money and grade did not matter, you could complete 90% in one day. Proof Bust Dollars would be pretty difficult and the complete type set with gold would be a serious challenge, but any set wholly in the 20th or 21st century would be very easy.

Why not just have a throw down the fattest wallet contest?

MS State Quarters could be done in 5 mintues with a call to Tulving.
Give Blood (Red Bags) & Platelets (Yellow Bags)!
  • Easy. Go to Ebay. Use the "Buy it now" option and not just registry a set, but will be in the first page.
