RGL - As long as you have checks left, it must mean you still have money left in the account. Bearimage

Jeremy - Keep bothering your parents. That's what they're for.

I was unaware you had taken financial management training from my significant other -- or as you might call her, because I am not -- my sow! image
  • You really need two checking accounts. whenever one gets low just write a check from the other one and vice versa.

No checks where the value requires a comma!

I hve 3/5 of my allowance routed into it weekly ($15), I ref soccer games and keep half (on sundays, make $20-$70/day that way), want to get a job doing something... (hmmmm?), starting a web design business image... so if you need a website image

Shame on you Preslelh. what you suggest is called kiting a check. They say confession is good for the soul and I must admit that 20 odd years ago, when the prime rate was 18%, I was kiting checks between 4 accounts. I know I made in the hi four figures doing it.

Woohoo--I finally got my social security check. Now I can finally stop bothering my parents.
  • I confess gat, but the banks transfer funds so fast now it is almost impossible to do it.
  • Wait to you get a credit card. Then you can "pay" for everything without really paying. And if you have two credit cards, you can transfer one account to another account, or use a cash advance check from one card to pay the monthly bill of the other card, and vice versa. And if you have three credit cards........ image

The good thing about credit card companies is the more money you owe, the more credit they're willing to give you. image

Congratulations, Airplanenut! Now the fun part can begin.. keeping proper track of where your money comes from and where it goes. May I suggest that, if you haven't already, you pick up Quicken software to manage your finances. Have fun but be responsible.

  • I hardly write checks now. I use free electronic payments for most of my bills so I save a bunch on envelopes and stamp costs. Also the chance of lost mail is eliminated. But for someone just starting out, it is a nice thing to have. Just don't bounce any checks or your credit rating will be trashed.
