It's 4 Reals 1884-CC (Somethings Fishy?)

It may be a coincidence, but I think that there's more to the It's4Real saga than meets the eye.

About two weeks ago, I bought a 1885-CC GSA Morgan on an Ebay buy-it-now for $150.00. I paid via Ebay payments with a credit card. Later when I logged back on the computer, my payment was refunded. I attempted to contact the seller via E-mail, then called and asked what the problem was. The seller then told me that he would not sell the coin for what he listed it for and was going to relist. I told him that if he listed the coin for that price, I believed that he was obligated to sell it. The seller then told me that he had a bunch of GSA dollars and asked me about the difference between the 1880 reverses. I thought that this was rather weird, and am currently looking into legal action against the seller. By the way, he did put the coin for auction again and sold it to another. This sellers name on Ebay is"mrmoskowitz"...check out his past auctions and you'll see that a 1885-CC (he includes serial #'s in his auctions) was sold twice.

Here's the strange part...If you check out "mrmoskowitz" feedback, he sold a 1884-CC to a buyer named "coins-and-cards", who says in his feedback that the coin is a MS-67. It just so happens that coins-and-cards is also right now listinf a 1885 dollar that has the same pictures as the ones listed in the auction that It's4real had listed under a different name.

Now in his first forum posts, It's4real signed as Mike. I know from contacting Ebay that mrmoskowitz first name is Mike. "mrmoskowitz" lived in Florida, even though in the auction he lists that he's from Texas. Coins-and-cards lists his address as Atlanta in the auctions, but if you look at the "me" section in his Ebay name, he's hawking a Florida condo..

Now...it may be all coincidence, but if it is it's sure strange. If anyone bid on an auction by Its4real, go on the Ebay auction page and find out his real name, address, and phone number...I wanna know if it's the same weasel that wouldn't sell the 1885-cc dollar to me.

  • Oh my... and look at what mrmoskowitz left coins-n-cards for feedback. feedback (it's about halfway down)

a little odd for an ebay feedback. LOL
  • "currently looking into legal action against the seller" Are you kidding me? For a $150 coin? Take some ear plugs to the lawyer's office. You'll need them to deafen the extremely loud laughter you will receive when you tell him what you want to sue for. God, what is this world coming to??!! Just go buy another coin. For just a few dollars more you can buy yourself a nice one in a MS-65 holder.

Jake...I didn't catch the feedback before. That is weird.

DCAMFranklin...I can see your point about this being trivial, but it brings up a good point. How will online auctions be policed for breach of contract if bad sellers and buyers are not prosecuted? These auctions are not meant to be sounding boards for the sellers to determine coin values before they actually sell them to someone else. I agree with your "what's the world coming to" comment, but unlike you, I expect people to be honorable, and do my best to do so myself. Throwing money at the problem (a few hundred to get the better slabbed coin), will not prevent someone else from being deceived by sellers such as this.

Reality check: If I was truly getting MS67 Morgans on E-bay from some uneducated seller, would I then alert him to his folly by giving him feedback telling him he is underselling his coins? Get real. The whole thing reeks.

The base price (sight-unseen) for any GSA 1885-CC is about $275.00. That's why I suspect he balked at completing the auction.

As for that 'sexual chocolate' stuff....that's just plain weird!image

As of today (according to ebay records), its4real changed his ebay ID from mikefirst1@aol.com to coins-n-cards. The 1885 Morgan is relisted under the coins-n-cards seller ID, but now is a private auction.

You can see what it looked like when he bought it for $13.87 in this auction.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

GSA guy...I'm sure that you're correct with that assumption, but it was evident when I talked to the guy that there was something else going on. My opinion is that he was using the auctions as vehicles to find what his coins were worth without actual sales. As the seller, he holds the responsibility to price the coin correctly. I believe it's too late to switch horses once payment has been made for the merchandise. If it would have been a situation where a seller was between a rock and a hard place and was honest, I would have gladly dropped my claim to the coin. You can imagine what commerce would be like if prices could be legally changed once the purchase was made.

I think that there's more to this whole fiasco than we know of.

    I love this board! image

In God We Trust.... all others pay in Gold and Silver!
  • I wonder why he made his auction a private one? Maybe so we can't tell the bidders that the guy's an idiot?

That sexual chocolate thing is kind of weird. I wonder what that is about?imageimage

  • I LOVE all the detective work that goes on around here! This is great stuff!

  • I am amazed...

You guys should REALLY get a life!

    LOLOLOL!

I have never, ever, seen so much "detective" work that is pure BS in my whole life! It is absolutely hilarious! They should put this on the "X-files"

I bought the coin, the guy gave me good feedback because I paid him instantly. I paid $90+/- plus shipping. He thought I got the better of him and said so in an e-mail....but was obligated to sell it anyway - at least he THOUGHT he was.....I call that character (something sorely lacking here)...

Anyway - he sold It - to me - and yes - I have a nice condo on the beach in Florida - too bad you don't- the depth of people here amazes me - LOL.

like I said before - SORRY to take all of the mystery out of your little game but it's all very simple and innocent....I know you would like some excietement in your lives but you won't find it here. No mystery - simple purchase.

I changed my E-bay ID and cancelled the auctions due to all of the threats I received from members of this board - YES YOU - to make a bunch of false bids and then not pay - sound familiar? You know who you are...

Hey - MR. Dairy Queen - you think it's funny still? I thought it was a little sick but oh well...

Anyway - you guys have a happy life

So, where are they lawyers on the board to help us out with this? Can they guive us some insight into what this person is doing?
  • There is no national law to protect you from hideous ebay sellers. If i am in georgia and i want to sue you in michigan i have to hire a lawyer in michigan. Since i am from out of town the chance of not being totally screwed by a lawyer is about minus zero. Pay the lawyer in advance and wait for trial. Ha try it sometime. I took a bad check for 450.00 at my business in tennessee, the check is from slightly over the line in georgia. i have to sue in tennessee. I have a warrant out for her arrest in tennessee. big deal Georgia wont arrest on a tennessee warrant. My next option is sue in georgia magistrate court. Costs 45.00 and she may not even show up. The judge says turn it over to a georgia lawyer. up front cost 240.00. See what i mean?

Presleyh - Your reply gave me a terrible headache. I had two find a bottle of Tylenol and then had a heck of a time getting the safety cap off with my paws. So now I have a headache and two sore paws, just because you cant seem to find the right lawyer, licensed in 3 states, willing to work cheap. You humans sure lead a complicated life .
