What slab company can be trusted???????

I only have 4 slabs a PCGS that seems accurate a NGC that seems ok, a SEGS Franklin half MS64 no mention of a harsh cleaning, and a ACG PF70 commem that is spotted and has a nick on the rim.

Out of the 8 or so companies out their how do you rate them i need to know because i am loosing trust in grading companies and need some directionimage

Thank you in advance for all your help.

This is one of the ongoing questions tackled on here - I posted a thread on kinda the same issue here: Thread but I'm sure that if you do some searching you'll find many other threads with the same topic.

    Hope that helps.

If they are not ANACS, PCGS or NGC I would consider them a slabbing company rather than a grading company.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

In general, I would say the top three are...

    PCGS, NGC, ANACS

    The bottom are

ACG, PCI (new), SEGS, NTC, other no-name brands

Hey, did you guys know that most BBQ sauce is fat free? Something I discovered recently. Of course, the meat underneath the sauce kind of screws things up.

Hmmm - does that mean they can now advertise FAT BACK and PORK BUTTS as health food???

Could be the new rage! image
  • As others have said previously. PCGS, NGC, and ANACS are the head of the class. Like any other businesses the all have there faults as well as there strengths. Just say NO TO ACG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now HOW did we ever let our BBQ out of Texas? Must be an imposterimage!

Last time I was in San Jose, I tried to buy a brisket to make "our stuff" at my sister-in-law's house.....The guy in the meat market didn't know why in the world I wanted a ten pound brisket. he didn't have one anyway. Had to settle for two small ones. Rubbed them and then smoked them for 8 hours. Didn't leave any secrets there, however.

Since you appear to be satisfied with your PCGS and NGC coins, why would you not feel they can be trusted?

I would only send my coins to PCGS, NGC and ANACS; which one being contingent upon the service I was looking for. As far as purchasing, well, I have more faith in the three mentioned, and would buy them sight unseen as long as there is an adequate return policy from someone who WILLINGLY accepts returns. If I can personally evaluate a coin, then, I judge the coin on its own merits, BUT I would view the services I haven't mentioned with outright skepticism.

I would like to clarify that the skepticism is based on the fact that I view coins from PCGS and ANA published standards; I don't know what the other companies use as their standard.

  • It is my understanding that ICG is 2nd tier along with ANACS (PCGS and NGC being 1st). ICG apparently overgrades very high grade moderns (there are an awful lot of PR70 ICG coins, which sell for a substantial discount to PCGS graded coins).

There is little dispute who the top three are. But the bottom line is that one needs to learn as much about grading as possible. I would not trust any service's grade implicitly. Buying through a seasoned professional who understands your needs and strives to meet them is a big plus. Buying good quality coins at fair prices is in fact far, far tougher than it appears.

easy question. rate them all equally, then rate your own opinion one step higher.

you'll never go wrong that way.
