After the Statehood Quarter series.....

what design would be great to see.A clad version of the SLQ series?Back to the prior Washington design?
Maybe a dead president that hasn`t been on a coin yet.But which one and why.Better yet,a new Liberty
design?

I know its a ways off till this happens but what are your thoughts on a new look for the US 25c after 2008 or 2009.

  • I personally would like to see a return to some type of Liberty coin - either ressurect the Barber designs, or even better, let some of the great sculptors like Kent come up with a similar-themed face for lady liberty. The presidents are commemorated. Move on.

IF there is a resurgence in putting new dead guys on the coins, who stands pure enough to do so? Carter? Nixon? Kennedy? image

I would have no problems with seeing a new generation of SLQ's.

  • Personally, I would like to see T.Roosevelt. Great president, loved US coinage etc....

Maybe on a circulating 5.00 piece.

My only problem with the old design is the mint would "rework it" and butcher the design. Similiar to the artist who submit for the state quarter designs and complain about the liberties the mint takes with the design. Even a "Liberty" (i.e. flowing hair, standing, walking) would be nice to see.

  • I would like to see T Roos. on a coin also. But I think on a Silver Dollar. Maybe a buffalo on the reverse. Could you imagine that as a proof coin? Also an SLQ would be great, one of the most attractive designs second only to Walkers IMHO. A comm. with MT. Rushmore on one side would be nice, unless Dakota uses it on their Quarter don`t know about the other side. I will get slammed for this, but I like the idea of older designs comming back. I know not very creative or inventive. But a beautiful and classic design can always stand the test of time. Also to a lot of future collectors, the older designs would probably be unfamiliar to them, making them almost seem new.

As much as I'd like to see a re-run of a cool design, I think it would be better to forge newer designs. I suggest sending all mint employees to countries that have cool looking coinage for lessons.

I'd like to see a new liberty design (enough with the dead guys) and maybe an eagle or wreath reverse. I'd much prefer a new design instead on recycling an older design. I really don't think we've exhausted the the pool of creative (or appealing) representations of any of these deaign elements.
Buy the coin...but be sure to pay for it.

    My requests are simple:

No real people (especially dead presidents, these belong on comm halves or dollars if anything)
No repeat designs, I loved the originals, don't ruin them by making clad versions
Some image of Liberty would do great

I doubt if the mint will listen to me, but at least I could air my request here.

Images of Lady Liberty don't mean anything to people any more. When people see old draped bust dollars they just see a buxom wench. Similarly clusters of corn, tobacco and wheat no longer represent out key cash exports.

A more contemporary message might be something like air superiority. We could have B-2 bombers, stealth fighters etc. gracing our coinsimage

One relic of the past that never made onto regular coins that I think is 200 years overdue is the motte "Liberty parent of science and industry." Very prescient for 1792.

I'm with you -- I'd like to see a return to an image of Liberty, but not a recycling of any "classic" designs. Leave them in the past.

There must be plenty of great sculptors in the US today who can make a compelling coin design. The US Mint needs to find and recruit them into designing new coins. The coins should be designed with artistry and history in mind, and not to please any committee or special interest group. No real people (living or dead), no repeats. New classics.

I like the SLQ. But i would have to say that i don't think a coin should be reused. A new liberty would be a nice change but get rid of the dead pres.
  • I totally agree with putting renditions of Lady Liberty on U.S. coinage, but I think one dead president should stay - Washington. I think he's a great symbol of our country (father of) and someone everybody recognizes. Every kid knows who George Washington is. I would like to see a modified portrait of Washington on either the quarter, half or dollar. Some coin that is big and used a lot.

While I would dearly love to see a completely new design for the quarter after the SQ series ends, I fear that Washington will remain on the quarter. Perhaps the reverse may change, but don't count on Virginia allowing Washington to be removed from the quarter.

  • I would really like to see Brittany Spears on the new quarter, or if not Brittany, like alot of the rest of you have mentioned a new version of Ms Liberty would be really cool.

It would be nice to see various designs of Liberty for the dime, quarter and half. The dead guys have been honored it is time to move on.

  • Okay a few different designs: Iwa Jima,Space program -Mercury to the shuttle,Washington Monuement, National park designs like OLD FAITHFUL, a Grizzly, or Wolf because at the present rate that maybe one of the few ways we see these great creatures in the future. I have always been partial to wildlife designs and think they are under used. Transportation themes like an old steam locomotive and the old Pan Am Commercial Clippers(honking passenger seaplane). Any keepers?

If it were up to me I'd put Great American Indian Chiefs on them. Possibly a set with all coins for any given year having a different Chief. Now that would be cool.

Well, there can be distinctly American themes. Like the NFL or College football champion logo being used each year. Or national monuments like the Smokies or Yosemite, depending on which coin is to get the design. Larger coins can get cooler designs.

But I still stand by my statement that the mint engravers should do an employee exchange with countries that have cool coinage!

I don't like the idea of using past designs. It's pretty sad when this day in age that there is no creativity in our country.
