FULLY ORIGINAL gem mintstate INCREDIBLE toned capped bust halfdime

pcgs ms64 1830 halfdime older green tag holder and a truegem mintstate 65 plus coin no matter what the holder says!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this coin or any silver coin pre 1835 with fully original surfaces let alone rainbow target bullyeye album rim toning is RARE! this coin has multicolored rims BOTH sides!! leading to original grey toned centers.

this coin has never been dipped or cleaned or messed with like most all other pre 1835 silver coins and is hard to find original and along with the album toning and BOOMING! lustre coming through underneath the toning makes this coin a no brainer in terms or originality.

there are pricing sheets out there in the marketplace called the greysheet and the bluesheet which many dealers and collectors use almost like a price bible in the industry;

these sheets price pre 1835 silver coins assuming that the coins have been dipped and/or lightly cleaned one or more times since they were made as this is how most ALL COME!!

there is nothing wrong with a coin that has been dipped and/or lightly cleaned and still has nice eye appeal or has retoned nicely over the years or has been helped/conserved BUT TO GET SOMETHING LIKE THE ABOVE COIN NOT ONLY ORIGINAL AND NEVER PLAYED WITH BUT ALSO WITH NICE TONING FROM BEING STORED YEARS IN AN ALBUM IS A VERY RARE BIRD!!

this coin was one of the first coins to be struck in a collar hence a better overall strike but these coins still come weak in places but not so with this coin! it is a 100% MONSTER full strike which is still uncommon for the capped bust halfdimes and adds to the visual appeal of this coin.

the scan barely does justice to this coin and the colors are alive with lustre coming through the toning that knocks you off your feet!

the above coin has been personally examined by myself and the above are my thoughts on this coin. currently this coin resides in an eastern collection

special thanks to brian itsnotjustme for the resizing of the photo to fit on this thread!

sincerely michael

NOW you're talkin', dude! There is a droolworty piece! (Don't worry, I won't drool directly on the coin or the slab. But you might want to get a bucket.)

Michael: Now that is my kind of toning!! Love it!! The best of both original/untoned and the best of toning! The common meeting ground in which toning lovers and blast white lovers can meet and not have a food fight!!!

You are not going to believe this but I just opened up an original roll of BU 1946-S dimes in which nearly each coin has that kind of original rim toning!!!!

Love that coin! It has a great look. It wouldn't happen to be for sale would it? You could probably get one heck of an auction started right here in this thread.image
  • Stunning coin, Michael! image Thanks for sharing and, as usual, please keep them coming.

hey michael, totally terrific coin, one i would buy in an instant. one thing, though, what makes silver like this susceiptible to target toning is when it is lightly dipped at some point prior to being put in one of the old cardboard coin boards. it causes the silver to react more strongly w/ the acids better.

a 100% true original silver coin from the early 19th century will be dull, unattractive grey with a glazed look to it. i have physically seen such coins that were known to have been put away for over 100 years w/out being touched, and that's how they look. this is not to downplay your coin at all. i love it, would buy something like that in a split second!!!

    CONGRATULATIONS!!!

hi there KS! i agree with you! and you are very astute with your observastions of what fully original silver coins pre 1835 look like!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wow

but that is the trouble with scans of coins if you saw this coin in person you would see that this coin was never dipped when put into the album as it does have this as you say grey glazed over look to it! as it is also fully original with the attributes you mentioned in your post! but you would need to see this coin in person to see this!

in the respect that i said the coin has booming lustre it does but within the scope of the way this coin looks to other original coins of the same type and series!

but not like a toned morgan but this halfdime would be dull as compaired to a similar toned morgan

i have never seen another coin like this halfdime! i have seen some of the original grey somewhat unattractive with the glazed over look but never with this type of toning! along with fantaastic eye appeal!!!!!!!!!!

i guess the real deal would be to see this coin in person then what it is about would be seen by you in a heartbeat as you would know waht you are looking at karl!!!!

it is really too bad that many on these boards especially yourself!!!!!!!!! we were not closer to examine these coins in person!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! as i would really like to meet you karl and talk to you in person and show you some monster sh*t!

oreville!!!!!!!!!! i want all those 46 s dimes!!!!! but i think with many of the modern coins 1940 and after you will see many original rolls of these coins come out and especially so with the prices of the moderns climbing many more will be "discovered" and sent in for slabbing!

weather it will go the way of the cc dollars where hundreds of thousands were let out in great condition and the market actually went higher or the opposite but i guess only time will tell!

for me i like stuff pre depression era but that is another topic which would be really interesting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but there are always exceptions to the rules like early great toned commems and 36 to 42 peoof coinage with certain special attributes like fully original sets and cameo coins!!

sthanks for all the great responses!!

hi there boiler if the owner wants to ever sell the halfdime i will let you know!!! thanks for the great positive response!

mr mark feld!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i like you!!........lol

wait until i post on here later tonigh or early tomorrow morning the monster toned ms! not a proof 68 pre civil war seated coin but it will take me awhile to write the sight seen opinion..lol blurb about it!!
this coin someone qwill ask is it hi end well for me if it is a 68 it is a REAL 68 and mabye not a 69 but very close and very nice for a 68 and a real!!!!!!!!!!!! 68!! if itwas in a 69 holder it would not bother me though...........yes yes

    sincerely michael

oh and the toning man was mature and the collector who put this coin in an album for many a year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.....lol

hey thanks for all the great respnses!

hey michael, it is possible for a 100% original coin to tone like yours - it just takes longer if it was stored like that fresh off the mint press. if it does have that "glaze" look, you have one he11uva special coin there, pardon my french (trying to keep those 4letter words under control). in that case, that coin is worth way, way more than any price guide will show. that is so exciting!

about 2 years ago, 4 bust halves were found in a chicago lock box, and had been there since the 1800's, absolutely untouched and unmolested in any way. they were all common variety circ's, only xf condition at best. EACH ONE SOLD FOR $1000+ DOLLARS. why? because that kind of undipped, non-wiped originality is of the utmost extreme rarity. i think you got yourself something ultra special dude, and you better take good care of it!image

    i'm happy for ya.

wow karl! you are really an expert on early stuff

it would have been worth an admission price to be able to see those original bust halves!

    incredible!
who ever bought those coins got them cheap! you are absolutely right about this coin being in an album a long long time and how it takes even longer to tone like this with the coin being undipped original!!!!!!!

if you look at a collection of coins auctioned about a year ago that were hailed as the great toned collection and for the most part they were! SUPER TONED went for big bucks most also upgraded! but not origjnal and cleaned dipped before they retoned and that is okie,

BUT CANT HOLD A CANDLE OR COMPAIR TO THIS UNDIPPED FULLY ORIGINAL TONED COIN! THIS 1830!! this coin is 1000 times more uncommon and better looking and original!

unfortunately no ones knows this very few and since it is demand not supply that contraols the market the supply may be super low the demand is not there as there cant be demand if there is no supply and very few have seen a coin like this and knows what they are looking at if they do see one!!

but i guess with the prices realized of those 4 original bust halves there are some out there that know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

i hope it becomes more common place within the collecting community!!

thanks karl and you ARE really!! an advanced collector with much rare insider knowledge of coins wow!

    respectfully michael

    thanks brian!!
just ask brian he is the one who does all the photos! and he does an excellent job!!

also see what karl is talking about!! the dull grey glazed look with just nice lustre and then the rainbow rim toning both sides!!!!! just like he said but this coin has eye appeal and great original toning and karl is right it took many more years to tone! in 35 years i never have seen anything like this i am sure they exist but really rare or like karl said utmost extreme rarity throw away the sheets on this one but if you saw what the buyer of this coin paid some years ago all the sheet buyers would have had a heart attack

but with this coin who really knows or cares! it is so rare no one has seen one let alone knows what it is! an extremely undervalued coin

    Michael and Brian,
The enlarged pic was a great help, I couldn't quarrel that the coin was undergraded and it has terrific eye appeal. It would enhance any collection.
Michael , reading between the lines, I get the feeling that this is not your coin but one you have viewed in hand. Is that correct? I am curious about the Michael and Brian link. Michael , you are listed in Rochester and Brian in Texas. Michael do you scan it and send it to Brian for sizing or are the pics downloaded fron another site and sent to Brian as an E-maill attachment for sizing (or what)?

i had some of these coins photographed
