a few Ebay-related questions

1) Is there such a thing as making an auction too long? Is that extra 10 cents for a 10-day auction worth it, or is it overkill?

2) How do I get small but important details (such as serial-numbering) to show up well on a scan? My scanner's not THAT old (bought it holiday season 1999)...

3) What is the best strategy for determining an opening bid? For example, was
this one too low?

The reason I ask? I think I'm gonna put that Sam Clancy SAGE Platinum AU up on Ebay... I think it should gather some good interest (I didn't see one listed when I searched his name) but I want to make sure I get the most I can for it image

    1) no, its not overkill...for 10 cents, what the hell image

    2) its hard, even for my good scanner to pick up serial numbers....its just shiny and tough

    3) well, i think you may get screwed on your brooks rc...cause it prolly wont go very high at all...on high end cards, starting at 99 cents is ok, cause they will go high for sure, but for a nice, but not a GREAT card, start it at the least youll take for it

    hope i could help...image

PS - i sent your cds out some days ago, get them? still havent received that pennington tho image
  • i realy don;t know i let the player and the card speak for its self but people have diffren;t styles on ebay im not sure about the scanner picking up the serial number well you will just have to scan it and see if it shows up. and the opeing bid is just that an opeing bid just deside what you your self want for the opeing bid.
Im looking for 2001 fleer premium rookies and gameused that i don;t have for the sets im putting together.

    iv traded with: rooks
  • I wouldnt worry about the brooks auction yet cause most items dont get bids till theres one day left. The clancy isnt gonna get as much as you want on ebay cause if you look at his autos # to 240 their ending at $1-2. That might get you $20

  • Yeah... after looking at some completed auctions (including an SAGE auto /100 that went for $4.95) I think I might just hold onto it and hope he blows up in the next couple of years image

  • In my opinion 10 days is overkill, 7 days is almost too much for me, i like to start on Wed or thurs and end do 5 days, I feel that is enough. I would have at least started the Brooks at $9.95 it costs the same to as starting at $.99. One option you have is starting higher, and if it doesn't get a bid after a couple days then you can revise it now. You can adjust your opening bid and even get credited if it drops to a new pricing level. You can also add more days at this time, just make sure there is at least 12 hours left in the auction. One final note for those who aren't aware, and there are some out there, never start a card at the beginning of a new pricing level for eBay fees, such as $10 or $25, I see this still and it amazes me, 1 cent lower and you save on fees.
