a few Ebay-related questions

1) Is there such a thing as making an auction too long? Is that extra 10 cents for a 10-day auction worth it, or is it overkill?
2) How do I get small but important details (such as serial-numbering) to show up well on a scan? My scanner's not THAT old (bought it holiday season 1999)...
3) What is the best strategy for determining an opening bid? For example, was
this one too low?
The reason I ask? I think I'm gonna put that Sam Clancy SAGE Platinum AU up on Ebay... I think it should gather some good interest (I didn't see one listed when I searched his name) but I want to make sure I get the most I can for it
