Quick question about PCGS

GaCoinGuyGaCoinGuy Posts: 2,761 ✭✭✭✭
While I was examing the 5C and 25C to determine if I wanted to submit em for my slabbed birthyear set, I noticed that the 5C has a reverse that is rotated about 10 degrees. Will PCGS attribute this type of error, or is there a minimum that the dies have to be rotated?

Thanks in advance.

I don't think they will attribute any rotated die varieties. I could be wrong.

In general, a classic coin with a rotation of less that 45 degrees from north-south will not be recognized. For more than that, it's a crapshoot for PCGS to label it on an error holder unless it is a widely recognized variety.

  • I've seen PCGS certified Jeffs with rotated reverses sell on ebay. There is no mention of it on the PCGS holder, but the seller usually points it out. These were 10 degrees and more. I've never dealt with PCGS, but it doesn't look like it.

10 degree rotation is not much. I can't find the link on my laptop, but there is a site that deals with rotated dies.

Thanks for the info........I didn't think 10 degrees was much either, but kinda neat. These would be for a set that wouldn't be sold however unless I was upgrading one of them or something.
