Agreed.image That's why I am always looking for better coins in the same grade for my first set, and building a second set with the leftovers from the first. Actually, the second set is almost done and I've already started upgrading it! Maybe on to a third?image

I was thinking, though, that Joe's auction would make a hell of a gift if a dad/mom/husband/wife were looking for something special for a coin collecting family member.

  • I'd sure like to know how much $ he actually had in that set. Anyone care to estimate?

-Probably (and, just a guess based on his statements of where he purchased many of his coins) about what he is asking, or a bit more. I doubt he's making any money (yet) on this set.

  • And the buyer actually SNIPED it with 13 seconds to go. Now, that would be one nerve-racking snipe!

Braddick is on the mark. I didn't keep track of what I spent (1. Didn't want to know,2. Didn't want an evidence trail for the misses to find). Like any collection, some I got a good deal on, most were from dealers. Many were right around retail (Remember,I was finishing this set up for the registry deadline)but these were the $30 and $40 ones. I figured overall that my cost was about 75-80% of pcgs retail. $5000 times 75% = 3,750. I don't even want to think what I paid in postage.

Yes the hunt was everything. I'm still collecting Kennedy proofs; just not every year!

Russ - I am not so sure about the coins , but I really liked the wood floor in the picture. I wonder when the floor goes up for bid? Bearimage

I figured Russ would have jumped all over it and start a 3rd set!!!image

I believe a number of those were from my old set! I think you got more for your set than I did for mine when I broke it up. Maybe it is a better market now.
