If you know ANYTHING about patchs, look here and help.....

In the beckett it price my A-rod patch at $120 and for premium patchs to x2 which means $240........is my A-Rod considered a premium patch. I beleive it should, it's 4 colors, looks like the T and the patch covers most of the card, it's also is #'ed 50/50

here's a scan:

A-Rod patch

  • It's Premium!!
  • If you'll look back to the Beckett when Flair came out you will see that it says Premium Patches are only patches that contain 5-6 colors or more and have a really nice patch like the little team logo on the sleeve, the MLB logo, the All-Star Game logo, or an anniversary logo. All of the patches have a 3-4 color piece of a letter or number. Andrew
  • I seen a Maddux patch on ebay that was 2 color......just had a line through it........so my a-rod and Maddux are about the same? Just different players?
  • I would consider that a BIG premium and it is also 50/50 which some collectors like

Its a very nice looking patch-but-you will get what people are willing to pay or trade

start the price and move down if you cant get what you want. You can always go down but cant go up

HELL YEAH thats a seriously premium patch image
  • Thats a sweet patch!!! I would consider it a premium :-)
  • Here are some actual PREMIUM PATCHES:

    Kendall MLB patch
    ARod flag patch #'d 1/1

Of course the ARod is the 1/1 masterpiece version but it still has a good example of a premium patch piece. I saw a bunch of the All-Star Game logo and AL or NL logo ones that had 6 or more colors but they have all been taken off eBay since it was so long ago.

    Andrew
  • I agree with everyone BUT Andrew. Yes that is a Premium Patch..A patch is just a piece of jersey..not a number letter or any of that...A premium patch is when you get 2 or more colors of the jersey and letter, number, or logo...Or 2 of the above without the jersey..SO I think it IS a Premium Patch.. SWEET CARD
  • What a nerd! A patch is not just a piece of jersey.

A patch IS a piece of a number, letter, or logo. All of those Sweet Swatch Patch Edition Cards have a piece of 2-4 color patch. The Premium Patches are only ones that contain 5-6 COLORS OR MORE!!! Look in Beckett when Flair first came out.

You people need to research cards more before you come on here saying stuff like makes you look like a retard.

Who on earth thinks that a patch is a piece of plain jersey and that a piece of number or letter is a premium patch? If that's the case then what do you call a plain 1 color jersey card?

    Andrew
  • LMAO...........The A-rod you gave us a link to.........is acually a 1/1.......it's a "masterpiece" patch so it has no bv, so you times the bv x2, so it still has no bv..........
  • Read the exact words of my post, "Of course the ARod is the 1/1 masterpiece version but it still has a good example of a premium patch piece."

Learn to read before you say something that shows people you can't.

What is that on your icon, a weasal? Do you have a camera with a timer or did you get someone to take it for you?

No hard feelings, man. I still want to trade with you. PLMK Andrew

  • I caught that rat in my backyard.......it's whats for dinner.............image

Nah, I just found it on the icon page........
  • I was inferring that the pic was of you but you're too slow to get it. Anyways, let's make a trade. I really want that ARod. PLMK Andrew
  • pacman, you are mistaken. the sweet swatches can be one solid color, or they can be multiple colors, and what determines a "premium" is a variation of the swatch in question. i work at a card shop, i put one of the basic, solid color sweet swatches up the other day. the rodriguez in question is a premium, not only because of the color/patch variation, but because of the particular serial numbering. believe me, i deal with these cards for a living, his is beautiful, and even without the numbering, still brings a premium because of the swatch itself. YOU need to educate yourself on the market and stop acting like you are the resident patch expert.
  • I love the pretty little butterfly, craneman. It fits you perfectly, such a little brain and all. Sorry to say, but Beckett clearly states that Premium patches have 5 or more colors and have a special logo or emblem. And if you have a 1 color patch card then it's more commonly referred to as a jersey card. With as big of a piece as Sweet Swatches have it would be almost impossible for them to have only 1 color. Are you sure you work at a cardshop and not a 'tardshop? No hard feelings, craneman, I'm just having a bad day and am very bored. PLMK Andrew
  • I wish ebay would give out that much information out on all the patchs, it would help alot.
  • vincesanity, do you want to trade the ARod to me? I already said I'll give over bv but not double. What cards did you like of mine? Also, it's patches with an "e." PLMK Andrew
  • lol.........I can't win for losing.............

Pac- If I trade it, it's gonna be for $240.........sorry.
  • Considering it has every color available on a Rangers uni, it has at least 5-6 color transfers, and that it's numbered 50/50, the card should carry the double-book premium. It'd do nicely on Ebay that's for sure image

  • For all the people who don’t know very much about Sweet Swatch patches, I went home and found my July 2002 Beckett where they first listed 2002 Flair. Here’s exactly what it says:

    “2002 Flair Sweet Swatch Patch”

    “*Premium Patches: 2X Listed Prices”

“*Premium patches commanding sales up to 2X listed prices typically contain a team’s logo or the MLB logo in well placed locations and contain five or more colors.”

It says the team’s logo or the MLB logo but they can also contain the All-Star Game logo, AL or NL logo, etc. And by “team’s logo” they mean the little one on the sleeve, which for Arod would be the Texas flag, not the big team NAME across the front. They almost all contain that. And another thing that doesn’t qualify yours as a Premium Patch is the fact that it has to have FIVE COLORS OR MORE, and yours is only four. So yours books for $120, not $240. And you can’t say that it being serial #’d 50/50 makes it worth anymore. I’ve seen people on here saying that being serial #’d to a player’s jersey # doesn’t make cards worth more. What are you going to come up with next, a 1/1 card that’s serial #’d to the # of times the player’s won an ESPY? That would be cool.

I do still want to trade for it, but for what it really books. I’d even trade over bv for it, but not anywhere close to double. PLMK

Andrew “the resident patch expert” (as the guy with the pretty butterfly icon said)
  • Ok, vincesanity, take a look at my tradepage and LMK if there's anything you'd take for it. PLMK Andrew
  • Well... i guess it all comes down to what the person that has the card thinks it is worth. It seems to be mixed whether or not that would be considered a premium patch... so... it is in the eyes of vincesanity as to what it is worth to him... and what value he should trade it at. If he feels it is worth $240 and thats what he would trade it for... thats his decision to make.
  • Okay, first off you don't decide others peoples desions. Some people do care more if something is #'ed 1/1, 50/50, jersey #/whatever, some down care. It's what the traders want and that's it. You don't have to trade for something because you don't care about the numbering, but that doesn't mean your wants is the same as others. Anyway, the A-Rod is not for trade to you at least, I really don't give a ____ what it books, bv is BS to me. So if anyone has a decent offer on the A-rod See me.

And Raf- I am considering your offer very much, thank you.

I also have made a decision not to trade with you pac, don't take it personally, but just your actions have caused this, depending on how things go around here depends on if we'll ever trade.
  • I apologize, Vince, things haven't been going good at work but I shouldn't have taken my frustration out on the board. I hope we can trade someday because you've got some hot cards, but if not, that's ok. It is solely your decision to determine the value of your cards, and I think you're right, that patch is premium.
