The schedule seems okay by me. I like the idea of looking to change everything (except quarters). I would like to see the design changes introduced in the middle of the year so we have some interesting years in the collecting area. I am not so sure about the 50 state birds though, don't several states have similar or the same birds? This could be rather odd, I'd rather see 50 different eagles than a couple roadrunners, cardinals (sorry TJ) or a hummingbird on our dollar.
  • I wish they would redesign all the coins according to their timetables, but it probably won't happen. The designs will get stuck in legislation because some states won't like it. Virginia's already rocking the boat on the Monticello change.

More important than the change in design, I would like to see half dollars and dollar coins appear in pocket change. I've never received either in change for a transaction; where'd they all go?

  • i think that they should go backwards in time for the design like take the rossie and put a mercury dime obverse and a different reverse so there wont be any mistakes from clasics to modern mercs it would be cool but we wouldnt be around to see even the barbers image

  • "provide Americans and the world circulating coinage with designs and themes that appropriately reflect the pride of today's America,"

seems to me that the depictions that we have now should provide US with pride. Can Lewis and Clark stand with Washington, Jefferson, and Miss Liberty?

State birds has a Franklin Mint ring to it. Besides, there are many duplicates:

    Mockingbird- Ark, Florida,Miss, Tenn, Texas
Cardinal - Ill, Indiana, Kentucky, No. Carolina, Ohio, Virginia, W. Virginia
Western Meadowlark - Kansas,Montana,No. Dakota, Nebraska, Oregon

and my personal favorite: Minn - the Loon!

  • I don't understand. So would the dead presidents come off the coins or not. Sounds like they would be limited time runs. Also the Modern buff sounds cool, but I'm sure the mints low relief would ruin it.

Yep, the 18th century US was really something to be proud of. But isn"t there anything we can be proud of TODAY?

It gets my vote. It's pretty obvious that part of the recommendation to do this is to get the dollar coin to circulate more, or to at least generate more interest in it. I like the idea of a changing reverse for the Sac (similar to the state quarters), but not necessarily the bird theme. image
