    -Dan

Homer: I'm looking for something loose and billowy, something
comfortable for my first day of work.
Salesman: Work, huh? Let me guess. Computer programmer, computer
    magazine columnist, something with computers?
Homer: Well, I use a computer.
Salesman: [quietly, to self] Yeah, what's the connection? Must be the
    non-stop sitting and snacking.
[more audibly] Well, sir, many of our clients find pants
confining, so we offer a range of alternatives for the ample
gentleman: ponchos, muumuus, capes, jumpsuits, unisheets,
muslim body rolls, academic and judicial robes --
Homer: I don't want to look like a weirdo. I'll just go with a
    muumuu.
  • Hey Steven,
I'd really have a hard time arguing with Heritage's claim that they are the largest. They definitely have the most manpower of any coin dealer in America. The largest overseas is probably Spinks, but I doubt they are anywhere near whta Heritage has. Though Bowers and Superior probably would run 2nd and 3rd respectively. Anyone else have any ideas?

Finest, I dunno, prettiest I'd say the Royal Canadian Mint.

Mike -I believe I agree with you on the Canadian Mint. Finest quality and nicest designs.

Is it possible that based on retail sales alone, that Littleton might be the largest retailer of US coins?

Of course, bigger does not necessarily mean mean better.

Can the mint be considered a dealer? They typically don't buy coins from collectors.

You dont have to buy coins from collectors , when you have the legal right to mint coinage. The US Mint is a dealer in generally substandard and in great measure unappetizing coinage.

Hey, wassup, oreville and Carl? (And Bear, too) How've y'all been? I guess I've spent too much time on the "Dark Side" these last few months. image

Speaking of the Darkside, I would imagine that Spink in the UK is up there among the biggies, too. They claim to be the oldest, at any rate, having been established in the 1660's, if I remember correctly.

  • You beat me to it oreville, Littleton is by far the dealer with the highest sales figure! The Perth Mint has the highest quality coins!

The mint doesn't fit the definition of a dealer, they don't buy and sell. The mint is a manufacturer, they wholesale the bulk of their product out to the Federal reserve and they have a company retail outlet that deals with the general public. Just like lots of other manufacturers do.

They don't, eh? Seen their bottom line lately? image

  • I agree with condor, the Mint is not a dealer. As far as the biggest dealer in the world it would be tough to say. I guess it depends on wether your talking about sales figure, most advertisments, most chains, biggest website or what.

  • I don't think the mint considers themselves a dealer, but when they offered 3 years of "sold out" proof sets at a premium, it made me wonder.
