Anyone else got this SPAM Email from Russia???

Here is a copy of a SPAM Email I recieved this morning...

Lady and Gentlemen,

On behalf of State Coin Museum Store , I would like to offer you the
cooperation.

We have the collection of 88 United States rare coins in stock and very
interested to sell them. We are also very interested in purchasing
rare gold East European coins and US gold $20 pre 1800.

We have learned of few cases of fraud actions of sellers from East
Europe countries in US coin market, our store works with all necessary
licenses, copy of these can be send to you upon the request.

All items in our stock are certified and you can also check our good
standing by calling or mailing our references.

It then goes on the list several coins supposidily up for sale. Here is the disturbing part...

Yours,

Anna Nikiforova

  • Not seen hat one ...yet...... it is just another scam on the "I am the wife of the displaced African country" mail that went around in many forms for several years.

I could not exactly understand your post regarding your E-mail address. If they are using your e-mail address as a reference/contact then that is a BIG problem.

Yes, and I assumed that they either got my email from eBay or my registry set. Knowing the economic situation first hand in Russia, I would suggest you delete and block sender. There was a similar thread a month or two ago where a number of us, including forum member Pushkin, explained our reasons for avoiding such offers. In a nutshell, stay away!!

PS Be particularly cautious if the emails contain attachments and do not open them. There have been instances where trojan horses have been released by opening them. Update your virus scan.

I was just thinking that they got my email address off of Ebay. Or they may have found my coin website. I have my email address listed there too.

I understand Cachman!!! I had no intention of replying, buying or whatever from this person. My Virus scanning software is updated daily and automatically.

Just echoing Cacheman about fraud from that part of the world for all forum members. ALL DOCUMENTS can be forged or bought, ALL telephone, FAX, email communications can be made to appear legitimate, ALL references can be counterfeited to appear real. image

Last week for laughs I did a yahoo search on my last name and bam! my registry set was the second item listed. The registry lists my email address and it's a concern both from a security and spam standpoint. I will probably change the registry name, if I don't sell it, and drop the email reference. I will feel a little safer having my set known as "Joe's Shiny Proofs".
