Remember Pattern coins?

What if the mint had a contest, to design the new national coinage. The top 3 patterns of each coin could be produced and sold to collectors for one year. This would be a true prestige set of the highest quality., parhaps limited to one set per suscriber. How much would you be willing to pay for such a set with the $!, 50C, 25C and dime all in silver and gold sets?

Patterns are usually not made of the real metal so for me it would depend on what they were made of and how much I like the designs.

That said if they used the actual metal and I liked the designs around $300.
  • Judging from the mania for modern issues, I would say they would easily sell for 20,000 plus per set. Far more than patterns currently 100+ years old.

Myself, I'd max at a couple of grand for a set.

How about , if the mint made the patterns in a 3rd metal say copper to lower the cost. Now you would be able to choose from gold, silver or copper or a set of all 3 metals? How do you think the market place would treat such a once in a century opportunity? Bear
