Just that you can see another S under the top one. Looks like I can see part of a second S in the picture but the picture is too small to tell for sure with my eye's.

Did you ever buy that 1855 proof?

There are articles on the 20 cent piece, but no books. Breen's encyclopedia has good information on the series.

my favorite variety is the 1875-s where the "S" looks exactly like a dollar sign "$". i think its mentioned in breen. not all that rare, but looks neat.

    The S/S is common.
I don't know how many different dies have the doubling on the mintmark, but at least 4 different ones.
Also there are different varieties of 20 cent pieces with numerals punched into the dentils.
Save your money to buy Shiro's book which will have all this information contained in it.

Sometimes I think it's easier to find the S/S than a regular 75-s 20c piece. The coin in the link is AWFULLY expensive, in my opinion.

Tom--It is very difficult to see the RPM in the photos attached. I was looking thru my book on 20 Cent pieces and it shows 5 different Misplaced dates, MPD's, for the 1875 S 20 Cent.

I was just kidding about the 20 Cent book. The book that I found this info in is, Two Dates Are Better Than One, Kevin Flynn. MPD-001 and MPD-002 are the only ones that are listed as also having RPM's. The coin that you linked is the MPD-001 variety and the RPM basically overlies the primary MM and is turned slightly clockwise. If you look at the upper right of the MM, you can possibly see the clockwise rotation of the two separate MM's.

    Hope this helps!!!!!
