Coins are like drugs. White coins are marijuana and toned coins Angel dust!

I kind of think of coin collecting like drug use. Only legal. You start out collecting white coins for your Dansco albums and smoking pot at the same time.
You slowly find the 'buzz' not as strong and shift your collecting into more "exotic" areas. Monster Color coins (Angel Dust). More expensive, generally- but that exhileration!
And PCGS along with NGC are the suppliers, along with the "Dealers".
Ahhhhhh! The high!
The cool deal is you're able to wake up the following morning after collecting that Rainbow Morgan without feeling too guilty you've bankrupted your childrens future.

Like an internal demon goading me on, I am powerless to stop the urge to coin hunt!
I usually find myself after such binges, half naked and semi - conscience, wrapped in coin magazines and Greysheet pricing papers, wondering how I got there. It is such a fulfilling addiction!

In God We Trust.... all others pay in Gold and Silver!
Quite a metaphore(?).
But I disagree. If you agree with the studies, drugs kill brain cells, coin collecting on the other hand makes you think; whether it's about grading or learning the dates a series was produced, or what happened historically when the coins were made; coin collecting is educational.
But MOST importantly (IMO) is that after you have "blown" a thousand bucks, you still have something to show for it later.

You've got it nailed. Isn't all of life sort of like that for some of us.
Rainbow silver coins are like the wildly colored marijuana buds that were prevalent in the mid 70's to mid 80's
Don't bogart that SLQ my friend
Carefully pass it over to me

I thank God that I'm unqualified to agree or disagree since not having had the experience ! I tend to believe in that commercial that shows the two fried eggs as " This is your Brain After" and to compare it to Coin Collecting is ,,,,, Bizarre to say the Very least... guess I'm too old fashioned although I think they should've legalized some of it for the sake of the people with terminal maladies... I think it was cruel to take that away from them...from what I've read of the benefits for them. 'nough said.

braddick and shylock - excellant metaphors! I'll resist analysing the choices of drugs mentioned, but they are interesting. They're more on point then maybe some would like to admit!
Don't bogart that slab, man, pass it on!!
Dragon: crack is cocaine. Cocaine is cooked in amonia and a rock forms, this you smoke and that rocks called crack. You can't be a parole officer on the East side of Chicago without learning this stuff.

It's good to see you keep a smile on your face, if not always reflected in your posts.

What about those really bad trips, you know the ones, we've all heard about them. Someone is really freakin and they jump out a window. Is that the feeling you would have when you arrive home from a show and all you have in your pockets are PCI slabs?
How about flashbacks. Uncle sam promised us flashbacks. What are those in the coin world? Is that the sinking feeling you have when you sell that really cool toned < SLQ, Morgan, Place your favorite here> and wish you hadn't? All you can do is sit and think about how pretty she was
