The PCGS FINGERPRINTS Continue

That's the bad news. I just got back a 1967 Kennedy (not SMS) in MS66 and it is covered with fingerprints. I count at least 6 fingerprints on the coin. The coin was fingerprint free when submitted.

Come on PCGS this has to be intentional. This isn't a minor mistake. This is some pissed off employee getting back at you.

This coin is going back to PCGS to be fixed. imageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimage

Don't these guys wear cotton gloves when handling submissions? If not, why not? Perhaps you should include a pair of gloves gratis when you submit your coins for certification!!!

If I get any fingerprints on my latest submission, I'm going to be extremely mad at PCGS. I think that PCGS needs to fingerprint the people that have access to the coins and find the culprit.

I don't think it's the Graders doing it.
It's the minimum wage employee working in the basement slabbing these coins.
HE needs to wear gloves when popping the coin into the ring insert.

    Phingerprint Coin Garding Service?

    image
  • Probably too many people handling the coin and one (or several) are not meticulous when handling the coin. Maybe this is their way of reducing the number of high PQ coins for a given series?

This is really unbelievable........this problem has been brought up by so many people, and has been so widespread over the last 24 months or so, it's really incredible that PCGS has not addressed, and more importantly CORRECTED this issue.

PCGS has addressed this. They say it is not them.

Of course it is them. If it wasn't them then that means *I* fingerprinted this coin. If that were the case why wouldn't I just dip the prints off?

If it isn't them then how come one of my coins came back with water (sneeze residue?, snot?) on the coin? If it was me who did it then it wouldn't have gotten slabbed by them. It would have been bagged.

That is not the response I got when it happened to me.

I used to believe that no one at PCGS knew who's coin they were handling - since this happens to Greg repeatedly, I no longer believe that is the case! image
  • There's sand in the Vaseline ! Someone is telling little white lies without little white gloves ! Is it sabbatage ? Are submitters going to need photographs BEFORE submissions to proove the truth? Gettin' Ugly.

  • I think we all have sufficient evidence to trace the prints to the source (disgruntled employee?!?) and have him/her ousted.

This is one of the major problems with slabbing coins!

Why would'nt PCGS set up some type of sting ?

How about a crash course about handling ?
How about MANDATORY GLOVES in the slab room ?
    Just some thoughts...........

I would bet that there are cameras throughout the entire building. I'd bet that anywhere a coin goes there are highly visible cameras.

Mandatory gloves would be nice, but if the person is putting their finger on a coin, then using a glove won't help much. They won't leave a fingerprint, but they will scuff or hairline a coin.

    Kaj1,
I actually think I need to speak to someone at PCGS... I just started another thread about the Quality Control and can't see why white gloves should me manditory. At one time I was in the film industry and if you got caught without your white gloves on, you immediately got written up.

If I open up a proof set, I never touch the coins. I keep them in the holder and use my trusty magnifying glass to look at them. When I place them in the flip, I bend the "cardboard" a bit and use my nails to push them out onto the flip. Once in the flip, I know they do not have fingerprints on them.

This is driving me nuts today image I guess I'll go see how my stocks are doing...wait, that will drive me nuts too!
