Any guesstimate on number of AH 64 Kennedys were made?

LanLordLanLord Posts: 11,714 ✭✭✭✭✭
I was at a small show over the weekend and searching through proof sets and was able to pick out a 1964 set with an AH half in it. I was wondering, was there any information on how many of these may have been made?

I also want to thank all those on this board that have posted information on identifying them, it helped enormously. While the one I picked up isn't really anything special, no monster cameo or anything, it is cool to get my mitts on one still in the plastic.

The best estimate I have seen, on how many of these were produced, is 1-2 percent of the 64 proof production. I actually wrote to an "expert" whose response was something like "the mint didn't record the number."

  • I would guess around 7,000.

My guess is that those who collect Kennedy Half dollars, rather then halves with an ugly fat bald guy, would care.

all the estimates i've seen place it around 100,000 but that seems like a lowball guess to me. ask russ, he must have at least the 7,000 that lw guessed!!

  • Hey! Let's stick to bashing halves in a Kennedy thread, thanks.

Sure Franklin looks like he has more hair, but least you know Ike isn't wearing a rug.

Jim Barlow, my favorite Kennedy expert (he's been collecting and selling them since 1960! image ) believes it is somewhere around 70,000 to 90,000.

Actually, Liberty as depicted on Barber halves is a woman. She's not bald, just wearing a cap. image

  • This thread is starting to get interesting. We've seen a slam on Ikes, Barbers, Franklin's. I'll throw in a jab as well since I can't stand 2 cent pieces and Sheild Nickels. They wish they had a fat bald guy on them....yeah! take that, who's next....Abe you say, his beard looks like a home for wayward spiders, oh yea...........alright I stoped just short of the chick with wings on her hat imageimageimage
  • Shiro,

What in the artist's rendering convinces you that the obverse of the Barber half is depicting a woman?

You can't think of a coin to bash?!? Not even SBA dollars? You like those? SACs? You like those ugly Ikes? How about that crummy eagle on the reverse of Peace dollars? Heck, the last good dollar coin was the Morgan! image

Bear, stop trying to stay on topic! I'm trying to steer this into a dollar-bashing thread! image

I think the same could be asked of the SBA. That is one ugly broad.

Russ - I am sure glade that SBA didnt lead the temperance league. To look upon her contenance , would surly drive any man to drink. And rather heavily and quickly at that. Bear
