Collecting Goals

I'm new to this forum, and I would like to know what everybody's ultimate collecting goal is, beyond their current registry set.

Let me start with mine. I've been collecting cameo 1950-1964 roosevelt dimes. I love the cameo effect on these and the other denominations. My goal is for a set of 1950-1969 cameos across all five denominations. I may even try for earlier 20th century proof coins, or expand into 19th century cameos.

Hope to read yours.

  • My goal is to collect a type set of every US coin design in copper nickel and silver. Then after that I might expand to get a type set of gold.

    Good thread goyankeez!

Besides collecting any beautifully toned Morgan Dollar I can find, and any way above average GSA CC dollar, I'm working on a complete set of toned CC dollars. That should be a difficult but satisfying task.

My suggestion to all collectors, regardless of what series they like to collect, is to always buy the best coins they can afford and to always buy what they like.

  • Yankeez:

    Welcome to the forum.

My goal has always been to put together a beautiful set. I started getting into Franklins because it was the last all silver set that could affordably be put together. As I worked on it I came to realize what beautiful coins these were and fell in love with them - been working on my set ever since. In addition to this I also have a cent collection as well as a Roosevelt dime and Kennedy half collection and I like silver dollars as well, I'm partial to Peace dollars because the remind me of Art Deco.

    Regards,

    Frank
  • I'm really partial to dollars although I have complete uncirculated ungraded sets of Kennedy's, Washington quarters (after 1944), Roosevelt Dimes, Jefferson Nickels, and Lincoln Cents (earlier years are not uncirculated). I've really been trying to focus on Morgan Dollars, Peace Dollars, SBA Dollars, Eisenhower Dollars, and SAC Dollars. In addition to these, I am trying to put together a complete set of PCGS MS69 Gold Eagles in all denominations. (This one is a killer). I think I need to focus some more.image

My goal is pretty much the same as Steventheyn's, except I have also expanded to include a Commemorative type set and a complete run of proof and mint sets.

A complete set of original, well-matched VF Barber quarters.

Been stuck on the 13-S and 01-S for five years now. image

Always looking for original, better date VF20-VF35 Barber quarters and halves, and a quality beer.
  • Franklins first. But my real love is early commerative halfs! Check them out. Each is historical and unique in their meaning. They are the next big thing once the smoke clears!

Three complete matched sets of Barber halves. One in VG10, another in F12- F18, and the monster set in original VF-XF. I am 35 and will need at least another ten years.

  • I think I suffer from numismatic ADD! I started collecting when I was like 8 or 9, then took some time off for college, and then again in grad school. When I got out, the internet happened, and I got back into coins. I started going for type, then finished a circ buffalo set I started in 1985, then started and completed circ peace dollars, and Franklins in MS-63 or better, then started circ Morgans (still need 8 more) then started and finished Kennedys, then started Washingtons (still need a 32-S), then got 2 more for my Lincoln set that has been stagnant since the Reagan administration, now started 2-cent and 3-cent nickels. Most of the sets I do are just circulated pieces, all raw. Oh, and I discovered gold when I was working on my type set. I guess I am working on type since a year set is really tough on most series, even circ. But I really view my gold collection like fishing. You drag anything that'll bite into the boat, and some you keep and some you throw back.

    PS-Welcome Yankees!
