How About a New Grading Service?

I've seen a lot of threads since I've joined the forum that debate the merits of the grading services..."Grade the Grading Service" threads if you will.

I've noticed that when it comes to coins in plastic, there's a certain snobby pecking order amongst the coin collecting "brotherhood".

With that in mind, I've got an idea:

How would it be if I would start a new grading service? I would set my standards very high to ensure that only the best coins received high grades. As a rule of thumb, I would grade the coins at least 2 to 3 grades below the toughest grading services that are currently out there... If you've got a PCGS MS67, I would grade it MS65. A NGC PR69 Deep Cameo would be a PR66 Cameo at myservice...you get the picture. I'd charge considerably more for my coin grading, let's say $50.00 a coin for standard service when you submit through a dealer, so that you would feel that my service was the best...no individual submissions unless you join my special club for $500.00 a year. And the best part is that I would guarantee that my coins are at least the grade that I say they are. By holding my standards high I would be able to say that the coin that was formerly a PCGS MS68 is guaranteed to be at least as good as it's lofty grade it holds while in my high-zoot, color coded, specially sealed, scientifically shaped holder - MS63. You'd feel good knowing that you had one of the nicest MS63 coins around!

How does this sound to the coin grading masochists on the forum? What should the name of my grading service be?

I'm joking of course, but it's food for thought...hmmmimage

Blackhawk - Strange as it may be and joking aside, I think you may just be on to something. Look at the money you would save by not accidentally overgrading a coin. I guess to get a 70 grade with your company, it would have to be in a grade 73 slab from that other company. image

Cacheman...then the name that you suggested would have to be WBSS (We Be Smokin' Stuff)image...all the companys use initials don't cha know. I'm not saying that you couldn't get a MS70 at my service, but you would have a better chance of getting struck by lightning while in a caveimage

Charge a fair price so they don't bend you over w/ this "walk through service." You mean it cost 10x more to grade my coin now instead of by June of 2003?

    BBN,
How many coins/invoices have you submitted to grading services?

No one needs to use same day grading. And it does cost more. When PCGS attends a show and provides same day grading service, it does cost more. They need to have their employees travel (airfare, hotel, per diem expenses, overtime if they pay it, etc). They need to pack up (time/$) their equipment and supplies used to grade, label, and encase coins. Why should they not charge more?
