Miracle Cleaner!!

I don't think it shows as well in the scan, but I soaked this in this "miracle cleaner" and each day it looked better.

Originally I soaked it for a few days in Acetone and it cleaned it a bit but not as much as I liked... although I do like the gold tone on the coin. For the past 3 days, I soaked the Morgan in this "Miracle Cleaner", each morning I would wake up and take a q-tip and lightly rub...each morning the q-tip emerged with a dirty residue.

I had a Penny with PVC on it. I soaked it in this "miracle cleaner" and the next day, the PVC came off on the q-tip!!!

I know what you guys are thinking, This stuff has got to cost a fortune :-) You probably think it cost $100 a container...right? Well your wrong, This Miracle Cleaner is none other than Johnson's Baby Oil! If you have kids, you might even have some of it in your closet. This afternoon, I went to the Johnson and Johnson's website to see what is in this "miracle cleaner"....."Mineral Oil and Fragrance", Not only will PCGS be thankful that you sent them a coin after soaking it in this "miracle cleaner" but your coins will smell and feel as soft as a new born baby!

In any case, when looking at the reverse... it looks like it could grade well... but then looking at the obverse....well....

You have wisely chosen the best possible coin to experiment on, a 1921 Morgan. If you destroy a couple million of them , you will not have done the hobby any harm whatsoever.

Dakra - I dont care what you think, J&J baby oil will never outdo ajax , for cleaning a tough and dirty coin. Bear image
There once was a place called
    Camelotimage
  • Bear... I see the commercial now. A Customer is at a coin show, he views the coins left to right when suddenly he pans in across a nice shinny coin... the announcer exclaims "Ajax Was Here" :-) I will give it a try if the Baby Oil doesn't take all the dirt off the coin and see if it works out as well. Ajax Powder? Liquid? Detergent?

Lathmach... I've actually played around with just about any dirty coin I have come across. Had the Morgan been worth anything, I probably would have left it at soaking in the Acetone. Although the scan does not show it, the reverse looks great, much better than the original... but still, I'll never get more than a few dollars for the coin.
