Any news from the Dalton Show?

I was offered a couple of show cases but decided to 'coast' until Long Beach. Did anyone attend today and if so, how was it?

  • i had to buzz down since i live 10 miles from dalton. it was ok, dealers say about 650 people showed up the first day. i guess i was suprised at how ancient most coin dealers seemed to be. i will be there myself barring untimley death, but so many booths were maned by people who couldnt stand up or hear you talk. is this the norm? and if so who will be the dealers 10 years from now?

    TTT!!!

Presleyh, thanks for that report. Good thing you didn't see me there. I look like I'm about 3 days older than water! I'm only 49 but don't feel a day over 76.image

Anyone else shuffle over to the Dalton Show??? If so, how was it? Active, dead (excuse the language)?

  • Hey Joe,
What area are you referring to as 2 1/2 hours away? If it's near Atlanta I can help you out. The guy I work for was set up at the Dalton BRNA show, and I helped to man the table from Thursday-Sunday. It was really quite a decent show. It has become the 2nd largest show in the south, next to the FUN and the dealers all thought so. I know more wholesale dealer-to-dealer stuff went on than retail to collectors, but a lot of money changed hands there. I personally had a great time but only picked up 2 coins, an AU 58 Shielf Nickel and a 19-D Walker in VF. I think about 2000 people passed through the doors including 200 or so dealers. It is one of the faster growing shows as well and had a few interesting Educational Seminars. All that I really know is that I am ready to go to bed now image
  • gsa i just passed the big 50 myself. i guess i expected the road trip coin dealers to be younger than me due to the rigors of setting up and tearing down. i met some really nice people but it seems that many dealers at this show were in their 70s and 80s. i jsut wondered if that is the norm.
  • I agree, most of the dealers were older, I was the only college-age guy there the whole weekend at 22... Thought I'd throw that back in...

Nice to learn it's the 2nd largest show in the south. From what I've seen, it appers to be held semi-annually?

I wanted to go to the Dalton show, it's a little less than a 3 hour drive from me. But with a pregnant wife and a due date only about a week away, it just wasn't going to happen. Perhaps I'll make it in the spring.
  • I was too busy to reply yesterday or today. The show was huge. They are starting to attract dealers from further away each showing. I really need to find a way to get attend these shows on Friday. I didn't see any 1940's or 1950's possible cameo Lincolns. I had to be content with some circulated early Lincolns for my roll set, some raw Franklins for the young man that mows my lawn and a nice MS64 Liberty nickel for my set.
