Ebay seller using a photo from a coin I own.....

Hey guys,

I figured I would post this, I've never got into emailing sellers when I noticed something fishy. I bought a coin at the ANA show in NYC from a guy who had the coin for sale on ebay once before. I noticed that he has described the same coin and used the old picture from his past auction. The only thing is, I own the coin now. So people bidding on the coin are not seeing the coin they're bidding on. Its a $600+ gold eagle. I'm afraid the seller may have forgotten that he sold it to me! I don't think this is a case of deception, I just think he forgot. He sells really high end stuff and seems like a straight shooter. What should be done.

BTW I'm positive its my coin because the coin has an obvious scratch on the reverse and its exactly the same as mine!

It's misleading because I would expect to get the coin I bid on unless the seller says he uses stock pictures. I only believe in stock pictures if it is a common sight-unseen type of coin .
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

I agree with emailing him. Don't accuse, just mention tha you think you own this coin and purchased it from him.

If he does use stock photos let us know. I'll make sure to add him to the list of people never to buy from.
  • Below is a picture of the coin I took after buying it. The scratch on the reverse is best shown in this picture. If you compare the two its obvious that its the same scratch. Although my pic is more focused, you can still make out the same mark.

  • I sent him an email. I asked him if he used stock photos and reminded him that I purchased the coin from him at the ANA show in NYC. I'll see what happens. I guess I've joined the eBay police force now!!image

  • The seller emailed me back the day I emailed him. He said he was in a hurry and must have forgotten to replace the image. He puts no mention of the wrong pic in his email. Just letting everyone know what's going on--in case there's any bidders out there. I already own the coin so I have no reason to bidimageimage

can someone link the pic of the coin after he bought? I cant access it for some reason. I am curious to know if its the same coin. What is the PCGS holder #?
HAVE A GREAT DAY! THE CHOICE IS YOURS!!!!
  • What if the ebay seller says he owns the picture of this coin to which he used to own.
The seller doesn't show the PCGS cert. # in the pic. Is this a case of someone making
a mountain out of a molehill? This is just a MS 62 coin anyway. Maybe the ebay seller
has several coins like this. (unspotted with minimal marks)

that is a very interesting thread now waht happens if you post a very nice one of a kind coin here on these forums or send it to many via e mail and someone uses the photo of the coin that they do not own is it legal to do like on a web site or in an auction or as a photo for some other reason?? and iof this is done and the owner finds out does he have recourse to forse the user to not do it? or even if so is it worth the effort and cost to get an attorney or i guess who really cares>>
    ?? any thoughts

    sincerely michael
