First, look at this::
Link to Teletrade's August Saint Giveaway..
Scroll down and look at who won coin #5..
Then look at this::
What a FEDEX driver handed me on Tuesday..
I bid on one coin in their Sunday Gold Auction (a Quarter Eagle) and didn't win it. The next day I got email from their V.P. congratulating me on winning one of the Saints.. one of the three GEM Saints of the 12 they're giving away this month.. at first I thought it was spam, until I called him and he confirmed it. To receive it, all I had to do was agree to the use of my initials and State on their Web Site..
The next day, I had the coin.. for free. 100% free. Didn't cost me one stinkin' cent. Nothing..
This is a $1000.00+ coin. What has eBay given me for four and a half years of paying them monthly fees for being a seller there? Absofreakinlutely nothing..
You'll never hear me say anything bad about TeleTrade

I have been placing low bids like crazy hoping to win one.
I will admit I was somewhat sceptical about the true random picking of the winners but your winning makes me belvive is genuine.

I don't think it matters how many bids you place in each auction.. just that you place _a_ bid.. their rules don't spell it out, but you could ask them, if curious.. I think they just put the name of each auction bidder in a "hat" and then draw one, regardless of how many times you bid in that auction, your name only goes into the "hat" once..

2) TeleTrash still sucks. They suckj for the crap they sell, the lack of pictures, the "fanciful" descriptions, their poor customer service, and a ton of other things that I'm not going to post in an open forum.
edited to say I'm agreeing with steventheyn 2 posts up. It looks like I'm agreeing with gmarguli since I posted right after him.
<< <i>1) It sounds like an illegal lottery. They might as well be asking you to buy lottery tickets. Just my opinion.

Ooh.. bitter
They're not asking you to buy anything.. there's no registration fee, you don't enter a credit card number unless you win, and even then, you can pay by check.. it's a promotion to attract business. If you don't like it, don't go there, don't bid. I just came here to say that this giveaway is real and I have a $1000.00 coin for free to prove it.. and I have NO relationship with TeleTrade of any kind at all, except being a registered member and have won two incredibly rare and expensive coins in the past two years.. one for $27.00 and one for $25.00.. :: twirling finger in the air ::
In my experience, I'd say their customer service is top notch. Two auctions ago I bid on two identical lots when I meant to bid on one.. my mistake. (PCGS MS67 FB Mercury Dimes, if it matters).. I had a $50.00 off any win emailed coupon from them.. that's why I bid.. I won both. I phoned them and told them I'd made a mistake, and could I get out of paying for one of them. They said yes, mistakes happen, let me pay for only the one coin, and that was that. No "restocking" fee.. nothing. The woman on the phone couldn't have been nicer..
I paid for it, got the coin, mailed the packing list back with a printout of the coupon, and they credited $50.00 back to my plastic. Yeah, what a bunch of jerks, eh?
I find their customer service fast and responsive.. unlike eBay where you can't even get a human being on the phone, and they take days to answer email, and now force you go to through a Web form, if you can even find it, to send it..

Obscurum per obscurius
TeleTrash is a dumping ground. You might think they are great, but if I told the stories I've heard about them I'm sure your opinion would change. I wouldn't do business with them for anything.
SO, I guess my point being, by you not winning anything in an auction but you winning a coin is GREAT advertising. what better way for teletrade to get new customers....
<< <i>hrlaser, why would I be bitter? Because I didn't win? I didn't even enter. I haven't purchased anything off TeleTrash in years. If I want ugly coins I'll by from the ACG dealers on eBay. Abbreviated to add, "Teletrade is a minefield of a dumping ground..."
They are hit and miss, and agreeing with Greg, emphesis on "miss", but you can find the occassional 'jewel'. I've had good luck but only after studying how they write their lot descriptions and knowing what to look for (Teletrade has some nice coins in some series, maybe not so "nice" in others-).

"TeleTrash is a dumping ground" is your opinion, and you're stating opinion as fact.
"Stories I've heard about them" implies the basis of your criticsm is anecdotal evidence from someone else.. Equating them with ACG dealers on eBay is not even worthy of comment, IMO.
My experiences with TeleTrade is nothing but positive. And they don't ever list ACG crap in their auctions. And I don't now, never have, and never will buy or own an ACG slab.
I'm not crazy about their bidding mechanisms. I'd like every coin they list to have a photograph. The buyer's fees are high, but other than those, I have no complaints.
I simply reported their giving me a gift of a nice $1000.00 coin. If you want to shred them, fine.. I want to shake the hand of their VP and thank him, and that's what I intend to do at the next Long Beach Show..
