Well,being the old man on the board,I was a teenager when Elvis hit it big in the late 50s early 60s.It was so awesome!He was one of the best ever.He showed a whole generation how to enjoy life & the fun of being yourself.He'll always hold a spot in my heart & I cherish the great memories form those days.The "King"lives on in alot of us.

hey man, it might p!ss some people off, but i gotta agree.. who really does care? this thread is fine in my opinion, and i am sure some people liked him, but what did he ever do for this country? what did he do for mankind for that matter? make some good songs? wow.. he was a drunk who abused women.. i don't care for his music much, but i know he was very popular and liked by a lot of people.. i just don't see the need to make a big deal out of his death.. let him go.. how great is it to CELEBRATE someone's death anyways? he might have been a good artist, but as a person, he was far from greatness..

thito- what do you know? How do you know he abused women? Were you there? It seems that his ex-wife still respects him. Were you closer to him than his ex-wife? I don't know what kind of person he was, and neither do you.

I do know that he claimed to be religious. He might have walked down the wrong path at one time or another, but I do not know that to be a fact. That is between him and whoever he worshipped. He recorded some religious songs. And I like them. Whether you are religious or not, you should not make statements about a DEAD person that you do not know to be a fact.

Oh, and by the way, when he was drafted to be in the military, HE SERVED. He did what he was asked to do by the United States of America. I have to. Have you?

I dont want to sound mean, but why is this such a big deal? You never want to see someone that had a big impact to some people die young of a drug overdose, however people seem to forget that this guy was this white southern racist, who stole black music when blacks were not profiting at all from their music and made himself famous and rich off that music. This guy was a bad person, no matter how good of a preformer he was.

How do you steal music? Music is an art. An expression. Elvis packaged a style and sold it. It was an evolution of art.

Stealing? come on. What does it matter what race it was that brought it along.

I remember watching a documentary on PBS, and I believe it was Run DMC telling a story about what influenced them. It was a white artist that made "rap" recordings in the 1930's. Explain that "robbery".
